Innovative concept, but too limited for the moment

This kit is designed to protect your home against burglary, or at least warn you in case of intrusion. it is a starter kit, understand by this that will most likely buy more other sensors for doors and windows, the kit comprising only a copy for door and motion detector in over the base. This is very similar to some phones DECT bases, which makes sense since this product from the rest uses the latest DECT standard (for using autonomous sensors running on a single battery.) The batteries (lithium) are provided, they are non-rechargeable models (ref. CR123A, found particularly in some flashes) and whose life announced is rather long (2 years.)

Additional sensors cost about 50 euros each. Others provided more packs are marketed (but I have not yet seen on Amazon.) It is impossible to use this base station to pair DECT phones. Too bad ...

Installation is pretty easy, the manual is clear, the possibilities of fixing should be better explained however. The sensors attach to either double-sided tape or with screws, the motion sensor can also be installed, which can be a good solution if you have a high personal property placed in the room (cabinet for example.) It is imperative to a DSL or cable housing with router function enabled, the base connects with an ethernet cable. However, remote update of the sensors is a bit tedious and very time (within 30 minutes per sensor.) This operation is necessary only the first time, except of course if the manufacturer had to go out a new update in the future.

The principle is simple, each wireless module is powered by a battery and has sensors (motion sensor or accelerometer), this information is sent continuously at the base. Depending on the programming done (for motion detector for example) or threshold values ​​are exceeded (for the accelerometer, the sensor is in principle capable of distinguishing the normal opening of a door / window, a break), an alert is sent to the Gigaset server that handles immediately pass this alert on previously recorded in his personal account Gigaset devices.

The whole point of the system is the ability to be notified in real time of a possible intruder at his home. It is essential to have a compatible smartphone (Android or iOS) with a data plan, on which the Gigaset Elements application has been installed; if not an e-mail alert is also available. It can connect to the Gigaset account with a web browser and access a summary of sensors with real-time information, almost.

If it works pretty well, there still has big limitations. Indeed, one imagines that false alarms may occur. In case of alarm, so we would love to have a direct look at what is happening at home, either through a video or audio surveillance. Unfortunately, this kit does not include any element of this type and none are currently marketed (that would be provided later.) What should be done in case of emergency? Difficult to advise this type of device to monitor its distance from home. If you are there, it can be handy against by (to protect the night a garage door or conservatory for example ...) but it does not represent the majority of cases. The sensors are not waterproof and are intended for inside the housing.

Moreover, any power outage or internet makes inoperative the real-time system. In fact, the application can warn you of this situation (faulty sensor or lack of communication between the base and the server at Gigaset), but it is not instantaneous.

Outside the door modules, window or motion sensors, the only other element currently sold unit is a siren that plugs directly into industry.

Ultimately, this is a product that works properly, it does what it promises ... But without a camera or microphone, the slightest alert when you are not home may be more anxiety than good. And no siren, we can not hope no deterrent effect. In no case can replace a professional system, particularly because of the lack of protection against power outages or Internet (no SIM card or battery.)
