It's Showtime!

Showtime, Storytime (CD)

Customer Review

This new Nightwish DVD includes the concert the group gave at Wacken this summer (August 3 to be precise), in other words, one of the last concerts of the monumental Imaginaerum tour, begun in early 2012.
This concert, like "End Of An Era" before him, we turned a new page in the life of Nightwish. But rather than close a chapter like "End Of An Era", "Showtime, Storytime" opens a new one. Suddenly, the primary interest is to find out this live performance of the new Nightwish singer on pieces she has not sung originally. And that game, Floor Jansen scores. It is easily understood why Tuomas Holopainen did not seek further the new singer of the group, having on hand the person perfectly matched. Floor Jansen's a little bridge between the two ex-Nightwish singer. Technical and lyrical unless Tarja Turunen, less typical pop rock that Anette but comfortable in both registers. So, thanks to her, Nightwish resurrects pieces that you could not hear ("Ghost Love Score") to the delight of fans. And that, without condemning the securities in its most recent directory. By attacking these compounds with perhaps less lyrical than the diva (but anyway, to herself ...), but with great power, it is far from ridiculous and arranging them in her own way, she s 'brilliantly fate. What a performance on the final of "Ever Dream" and, of course, at the monumental "Ghost Love Score"! Suddenly, the period is as much Tarja represented than the last two albums, dated in the setlist for this show. Far from being ridiculous on the latest pieces and even though I keep a preference for versions of "Imaginaerum" sung by Anette, Floor is doing more than well on these securities too, it also rehabilitates his voice.

Image side, I always dread watching a DVD because the fashion is to epileptic editing, ie plans which change every two or three seconds and that's something I do not. Apprehension since confirmed on Dark Chest Of Wonders, the first song played by the band, I no less than seventy-two different planes in the first minute! It starts very badly ... Fortunately, it is a bit quiet after but damn, when is that developers will understand that we want to take the time to observe a musician in his works? During a solo, that of Troy I Want My Tears Back for example, wants to see the musician playing his instrument and not all plans and anything linked together at the speed of light!
Which brings me to the second criticism: too many public plans. A little is good, too, it is painful. If you buy a DVD Nightwish is to see the band on stage, not the face of the public Wacken all angles.
Those are the two little less than this DVD. For the rest, it's more positive! Obviously, the queen of the evening is Floor Jansen. It has the benefit of cameramen (or director) and I must say it provides. Tuomas behind its imposing keyboard is still as quiet and lets his partner, Marco and Floor, share ads and animate the evening. Jukka is focused on his kit and Emppu wanders on each side of the stage, guitar slung when he does not play, and it still looks as happy to be there. Troy Donockley appears mid-concert to interpret three pieces: "I Want My Tears Back", "Nemo" and "Last Of The Wilds". His contribution is really nice, it's a good thing he was integrated into the group permanently. Finally, the light show is therefore without being too intrusive (see the latest DVD Epica).
After the "Showtime" party (the concert), we drive on the second DVD the "Storytime" (documentary, entitled fun way "to please, learn the setlist in 48 hours"). This tells us the last tour of the band, the tour "Imaginaerum" which experienced the event is known. Of course, initially, it was no question of this change so the singer documentary starts precisely when the disruption occurred, on tour in the States, then returns back to tell the whole chronologically tour. Only as Anette Olzon has not agreed to it or sees it hear in this story (it's explained at the beginning of the documentary), all sample Anette concerts with his singing truncated. We do not see it, it does not hear (his voice was erased tapes) and therefore, Marco finds himself alone on vocals ... it's pretty special, Anette printing was not never part of the group. It is a pity of course, we would have liked to complete extracts. But for legal reasons, the group could not do otherwise. It remains that this is an interesting report for the fan of the band, much more positive than that which accompanied "End of an era" despite the episode of the eviction of Anette which necessarily had to be a pretty painful time for everyone.
The report is subtitled in English.

Overall a very nice DVD which, as I mentioned in the chronicle of the CD, allows you to discover new lead singer in his works on a directory that is not his. Verdict: it quite place in Nightwish. Hopefully the new era that opens will not end like twice already, water coil.
And now they've Floor with them, you bet that the next DVD of Nightwish, it will be the big thing with symphony orchestra and singers?
16/20
