I rarely as sharp with a book. For: a pile Prévert all Jazz musicians names known and less known. Against: the same.
There are repetitions of one page to another or from one chapter to another.
Randomly on a page I count the names: 10. There are 10 names of musicians per page on pages 250, in fear of forgetting one?
When the authors talk guitarists, they do not cite Django Reinhardt, who will be relegated 100 pages later in the Europea jazz box under gypsy box and under sub handicapped box. Jaco Pastorius is entitled to a few words, we learn that such musician drinks, etc.
this book resembles pedantic essays by some critics of Jazz, which only serve to try to highlight the author. THE Jazz says very little! He listens. And do not talk about: how to form a jazz band? Distressing.
The worst: the authors could spend 3 pages to a summary explanation of the theory of jazz, no. You get a tip about "a green mouse" without any interest.
There are excellent books on Jazz on amazon, look good, because this one is in a word: NUL.
