About the KREG Jig connection technology there are plenty of videos. The solid design of the tools and the advertised precise operation meet fully therefore I skip this part.
The universal connection technology (for yourself) were previously biscuit (in Austria known as Fischerl whether their shape). First of homogeneous wood and - in my case-even after I switched exclusively on solid wood.
Disadvantage of the biscuit technique: precise preparation is necessary (no matter for CNC machined plate is not so easy in the home workshop). Complicated gluing and clamping (monstrous structure of the clamps already collapsed and a day's work destroyed made) and no correction options if what went wrong.
Now - after I have made the first pieces of furniture with the KREG Jig I can confirm that this method with little effort at least as precise and durable as the results provides Dübelei. A drawer eight blind holes to hang up, and align screw is ready and stable in just minutes!
However, the success of a number of specific conditions must be observed, (apart from the different design) exist between American and European materials. Obviously used in America either harder woods or plywood multi-ply plywood. Here, the screw head make several layers of thin wooden slats contrary before the screw is connecting. Here in Austria are the most commonly used three-layer solid wood panels for example spruce boards. In order that the screw head in the bottom of the blind hole is little resistance (is the middle layer of the 3S plate just as wide as the diameter of the screw!) And it may happen that from the blind hole a through hole is fast!
Seen Needless mE the question or countersunk flat head screw (Panhead). I've tried countersunk it works, once the head drilled through and the third time produced a shaky connection again!
However, European Panhead screws should be treated with caution: if its compared to the original duller KREG screw tip should be any connection Pretension before one sets the screwdriver! That was so easy in the video meet and screw looks workpiece does not work with the more obtuse Panhed screws so! The workpieces move against each other and are no longer justified.
The head of the screw against KREG finds there already faster maintenance. Even the Threadless neck of KREG screw promotes optimal connection. But as I said when stretched keep common Panhead screws satisfactorily. Are optimal in each case, the original KREG screws.
To compensate for the above-mentioned drawback of the softer inner layer I reduce the depth of the stepped bore towards the KREG information and teaching (collar for limiting depths a few millimeters down from wood to wood differently).
Very important is also the torque limiting wrench to properly choose to prevent a runaway of the screws. Here you must try the respective timber in any case, an advantage before tackling the first workpiece in attack!
As an addition to the optimum clamping I recommend also the KREG clamp for right angle. I also for drawers (I prepare from 13mm thick wood) the KREG micro drilling template with bought.
Conclusion: Work in facilitating the workshop, time saving and perfect pieces of furniture! I would buy it again!
