On the merits, the investigation into the death of Alex Supertramp / Chris Candless Mac is a great reflection on freedom, its limitations, the return to nature, the sociability of the human being, the parent / child relationship (how such a nice guy and he can certainly escape a burdensome family, but not monstrous?), reason and madness, the adventure, the sense of our passage on earth ... In short, seen in this sense, this book is a philosophy course by himself, to read to all graduates.
On the form, the story is close to the story with some biographical information of the author who brings it to good use the experience of solitary mountaineer. But the testimonies of the people interviewed by Chris Candless Mac, as well as family members seem superficial, not used fully. Comparing "Into the wild" to another story, the fabulous "In Cold Blood" by Truman Capote, writing well is found bland, little ambitious book. On a subject like this, what a pity!
