On the search for a possible small, quiet and fast enough multimedia or living room PC I found the Acer Revo RL80 (I3 Intel CPU, HD3000 graphics and DVD drive). My goal was actually to install a Linux operating system, because otherwise I almost only work with Linux. So I ordered the Revo at Amazon, unpacked, made a backup of the disk and performed my Linux image. Unfortunately, I realized that Linux does not support graphics. I was very surprised, because the video driver the chipset have long been integrated into the operating system. In fail-safe mode, the Acer works useless under Linux, but without hardware acceleration and therefore for video. Meanwhile, the error in the new kernel has been fixed, but I did not have much use for my Ubuntu version. So I then played back Windows 8 yet. The hope that the patch will eventually be available for older kernel, I have not given up.
Now for the device:
The Acer Revo is hardly bigger than a box of chocolates and has like the pictures recognizable a glossy black casing which can not be seen as a PC in the TV rack. Pleasantly surprised I'm from the low-noise characteristics of the device. Despite integrated fans is hardly anything to be heard. The speed is more than adequate for my purposes.
From the graph you should however not expect miracles, but as a living room PC, he is best suited. Full-HD video in 1920x1080 it plays cleanly and without bucking off. Using the software XBMC media do you turn this device into an audio-video internet streaming all-rounder, without which one great coming into contact with Windows 8. Well, I also think that a wireless mouse / wireless keyboard is included. The power consumption of the device is also very low and is launched Windows at about 12 watts under load there are no more than 30 watts.
All in all a highly recommended living room PC (Windows 8)
