Yeah, with this disc I associate memories, after all, it is the first time that I've purchased as a 11-year-old, who had an income of 1 Mark pocket money per week. I heard at that time only Nirvana and Metallica plates that I had stolen from my siblings until one day I saw the Nookie video. I liked the sound and so I ran a few weeks to buy the (then very expensive) CD later in the shop to me. Mind you, I knew neither the band name nor the title of the song that I liked so. So it was pure luck that I came to the right plate. However, I could not be with the disk first warm. Emotional and whiny to screaming vocals were unknown to me until then. The mix of electronic and rock I disliked only. Only with the purchase of "Chocolate Starfish" I got used to it and learned to appreciate it.
Meanwhile, "Significant Other" (which means soul mate) one of my favorite plates. One can react wonderful to be sad, be happy, etc. Of course, as long as you like Nu Metal and even then it does not work immediately. You have to get used to in the good thing.
Since it is my very first own record I would like to write my first review it.
Story:
Limp Bizkit had (albeit very late) hit landed with their debut "$ 3 Bill Y'all" a. The pressure to succeed was great. Its successor should be a hit. LB changed their style a little. On this album the singer Fred Durst puts the shouting from and raps and sings (!) For a lot more. Also of musically everything has become much more hip-hop-heavy (eg N 2gether now). DJ Lethal has much more to do and the riffing of Wes Borland has become easier. Nevertheless, this album is more than the nu metal Rapcore-heavy predecessors. The lyrics are mostly about relationships ending, or that you're just mad at someone.
Title:
Intro: A typical Lethal Beat. Especially for the period 1999th
Just like this: Good beginners. With a lot of effects you can but get used to it. (4/5)
Nookie: Even now, one of my favorite songs. Great Beat and an LB typical midsection. The text is the evidence that do not take the boys themselves so seriously, what was at that time quite accused him. This thing rocks! (5/5)
Break Stuff: cool riff, accompanied by a text about everyday annoyances and you have a pretty awesome song! (5/5)
Re-Arranged: a very emotional track. So you did not know until then LB. It is (as almost the entire album) from the end of the relationship of Fred Durst and his first wife. One of the best LB songs! (5/5)
I'm Broke: What first begins fairly unilaterally changing the "Abgeher" ;-). After the three hits a weaker number which does not mean that it is bad. (4/5)
Nobody Like You (feat Jon Davis.): Here's Korn singer Jonathan Davis on board. A very strong number, the total going straight in the middle part. Awesome riff! (5/5)
Do not Go Off Wandering: Absolutely typical of the new LB-style. A real orchestra is in the background and gives the dish a bit more gloomy. One of the best pieces of LB precisely because it is very unusual for them! (5/5)
9 Teen 90 Nine: Not every year is 1999, and which wanted the guys to celebrate with a typical Nu Metal number. Simples reef still a good track. (4/5)
N 2 Gether Now (feat. Method Man): A pure hip hop song with Method Man. Saugeiles beat and two good rapper (if Fred a bit Poser moderately comes across). Those were the good times of Hip Hop * sniff *. (5/5)
Trust ?: A pure aggro number, which can already be seen at simple riffing. Still, very cool, especially if you're really sleep mad at someone. (5/5)
No Sex: Again one of those songs which will surely be among the best of Limp Bizkit. Effects bauble and ribbon perfect match here. (5/5)
Show Me What You Got: Just like on the previous album a "I want to thank ..." - track with the polite request "to get the F ** k up". The strengths of the tracks are in the sick riffing Gepose the weaknesses in Fred. (4/5)
A Lesson Learned: A quiet, relaxing Hip hop number. For one or the other perhaps because of the annoying "I'm so so bad" text. But I finds well. (5/5)
Outro: Listen to how it started only a little worse.
That means?
The album has hardly any weaknesses. Even the weak songs are still good and you can do it more often. The production is well (better than albums that are produced nowadays especially). "Significant Other" is one of the best LB albums if not the best for me.
A milestone in the nu metal genre. Just about hip-hop and rock were never combined again. Especially not from any other band.
Buy recommendation?
Even for LB fans that were previously only "Chocolate Starfish" or "3 Dollar Bill" had this album was heavy fare is why I say. As LB-fan this album is a must, worth more than Nu Metal fan a consideration and as someone which in the genre unfamiliar probably not the right one. Listen first time and remember that you need for this album time.
