Love to death

The weight of his eyes (Paperback)

Customer Review

We probably do not read Tim Powers for the quality of his pen, but probably more for its wealth of stories and consistency of his stories. The weight of his gaze contains what the author does best: the fantastic events which are revisited, periods or outstanding persons of history and not without brilliance.
The weight of his look tells the story of Michael Crawford, a brilliant English surgeon nineteenth century, contemporary poets Percy Shelley, John Keats and Lord Byron. It will end with them embedded in a story combining humans and creatures born of the Earth, parasitizing their hosts and sharing with them feelings and more.
The novel is actually a tale of vampirism, and the presence of English Romantic poets brings precise and incomparable flavor to the mix. The charm of Italy and the melancholy of Byron and Shelley give body and a truly romantic dimension to the vampire myth, far removed from Dracula / Carpathian stereotypes that we usually used. Maybe Will can you blame a somewhat agreed and predictable scenario, even if the story is skillfully led from start to finish. A novel in which Tim Powers proves adept in his style the borders of alternate history and fantasy and want to discover with him other universes (for me anyway).
