Your debut "I Kissed a Girl" I found original, the follow-up "Hot N Cold" rather average. The overall impression was not so great that I would have called myself a Katy Perry fan.
But this 3rd single is sheer madness. Stylistically, quite different from the 2 predecessor: no snotty-permeable pop, but an extremely intense, sentimental rock ballad that goes to me while listening each time through and through. Somewhat reminiscent of Alanis Morissette. Vocally makes Katy the more idiosyncratic - especially at the first notes - but I like that, just because it just is not brand "assembly line" is.
Under no circumstances should you listen to this song only with a cheap device, but on a hi-fi system with good quality, because then you can hear in the background sounds interesting and (in chorus) very discreet backing vocals out who else did not notice!
To offer this CD the album version (which is also known from the radio) and a slightly longer Acoustic Version. The latter I find also very charming, even if not quite as awesome as the former.
Another tip: Do not listen at heartbreak, because then this brings a song (whether male or female) probably!
