Maiden have once again further developed. According to still affect the part of the punk first two albums, the reference album "The Number Of The Beast" was followed by the very metal albums "Piece of Mind" and "Powerslave". On the next album "Somewhere in time" they sat for the first time Syntie guitars a genuine keyboards then on "Seventh Son of a Seventh Son" to return later on "No Prayer For The Dying" to classic hard rock roots. This was followed by weaker albums, but with "Brave New World" and the Return of Bruce Dickinson (vocals) and Adrian Smith (Guitar) a highly innovative piece of metal history was created.
The successor to the "Dance of Death" chosen path for mixing with progressive and acoustic elements is perfected in "A Matter of Life and Death". This album boasts epic pieces, mix the typical Maiden elements ("Galloperrythmus", polyphonic melodies, metal riffs) with influences of progressive rock. So could be the start of "The Legacy" entirely originate from Peter Gabriel or the early Genesis, this piece then opens into an immense hit. This mixture is typical of this album, which as convinced as entire work more. But do not worry, Maiden give correctly gas and are a lot better than on the previous album. Here are six musicians at work, all of which play their instruments and voice and have recorded perfectly.
The only weak song on the album is the opener "Different Worlds", which is indeed typical Maiden, but sounds like the way written. Even "The Pilgrim" falls over the other songs from something, but without being bad. As a final critical remark should be mentioned in part the altitudes of Bruce Dickinson. Here would sometimes less is more was to bring additional variations and aggressiveness (eg at Aces High).
Overall, have delivered with "A Matter of Life and Death" is a masterpiece, with which they set the bar (as so often) put quite a bit higher for other bands and other own albums Iron Maiden. Playing tips: start The whole album loud and in one piece, optionally with Song 2.
