Phil Collins is to Peter Gabriel the next Genesis singer who wants to return into the limelight with a real solo album. Much like Peter, he also had Soundtrack projects. Testify is now after 6 years his first real solo album. One is Phil Collins succeeded: You have to listen to the album more often in order to get used to some songs. The title song has even slightly prog-heavy (Genesis are difficult greet), on the other hand we expect in "Driving Me Crazy", the fastest song on the record, inevitably the whole dance scrap in the charts. The song has a slightly embarrassing sure Hitcharakter and text. The majority of the board consists of ballads and is different from "Both Sides" or "Face Value" marked with the happiness of love and not with the suffering. It is little wonder that he can still write good songs. Some ballads on the album are among his best. For example, "Come with me", which comes more rhythmically and especially the intense "Least you can do", which was written with Daryl Stuermer. "Do not get me started" is one of his mandatory socially critical songs with a good song structure - pale in comparison "Wake up call" rather disjointed as catchy. The greatest audacity that he had ever pressed on CD is likely to be "You touch my heart", on the song is absolutely nothing in it. But: The album has quite his style, and thrives on unity. He did not plan the Mega Kracher, the first single "Can not Stop Loving You" is but qualitatively far from his classics. But it makes him audibly fun to make music again and the plate grows with each listen.
