Songs from the Wood-Remastered (Audio CD)

Customer Review

1977, published on Chrysalis "Songs From The Wood" the British prog-rock band Jethro Tull around the full mastermind Ian Anderson is commonly one of the better if not reckoned the best work of the band.
And that is no coincidence, the album sounds like some experiments on some predecessors but again earthy, direct, coming back a little closer to the Masterpiece "Aqualung".
Although Anderson is also here again solely responsible for the composition work, but unlike else could David Palmer and Martin Barre "additional material" with bring.
Earlier time to time existing bonds in folk rock and classical music can also be found here again, especially folk elements are amplified here and very cleverly associated with prog rock and a certain "medieval-Touch".
The musician John Glascock (electric bass), Barriemore Barlow (drums Perc.), Martin Barre (guitar, lute), David Palmer (synthesizer, organ, piano) and Ian Anderson (vocals, flute, acoustic guitar, mandolin) show here in the highest playful mood, music virtuoso and make the great compositions, a highlight of the band's history, I mean.
The partly frivolous texts thematize pre-Christian rituals, festivals and myths, the music fits to simply outstanding (or vice versa).
The whole album seems never tried cramped wanting to create an atmosphere, but downright "authentic".
The rhythmic, loose tracks created with me, enhanced by the matching, own vocals of bandleader Anderson, actually some association to historical festivities during the quiet parts never seem sterile, but actually go towards campfire feeling.
"Songs From The Wood" is probably as far as tone and atmosphere, exactly the opposite overwhelmed with the Electronics, recorded in clinical pop sound, most hated Tull album of all time, "Under Wraps" represent.
For me it is one of the most consistent, the most interesting albums of the band ever.
The review of the album takes the band in the title track itself already anticipated:
"Songs from the Wood make you feel much better ..." .So it.

Recording and sound quality are OK, the record sounded pretty good time.
The first CD-series in the '80s, however, was a big disappointment, about deceiving the good dynamic range not hinweg.Die on the American precious label MFSL published Gold CD since brought a significant improvement.
2003's new album artwork JT completely remastered was (by whom is not figure out).
All of these remasters I think succeeded, in "Songs From The Wood", although the dynamics were slightly reduced, but is still ok, and it was not übersteuert.Die sound quality is also great here and reached for me at least the Gold CD.
In addition, spoil the remastered CD even with the good bonus track "Beltane" and also a live recording of "Velvet Green".
Fresh, happy, naughty, rock, contemplative in the end ...
I mean, who does not want to specify all of Jethro Tull, found here remains one of the essential albums of the band.
