Otto Lidenbrock found an old parchment which belonged to Arne Saknussemm, a scientist, who would have gone to the center of the Earth. The professor does not want to miss this scientific discovery and his Axel nephew embarks on the adventure. They must follow the road at the center of an Icelandic volcano and they hire an Icelandic hunter to guide them. The adventure can then begin.
Axel, the young man, who is engaged to the pupil of the professor, is the defeatist history. Already he will not go, he thinks they will die on the way or the volcano will wake up or they will starve or stuck in a landslide, either because of the heat ... He fears he probably but little by little it grows and opens his mind.
His uncle is more confident and persevering, he left with a single idea, see through this scientific mystery. But even if it is a scholar at heart, it is also a dreamer, he believes in his idea, in his dream.
Hans is the Icelandic guide who accompanies them. He is the strongest man in history, it has feet on the ground, he is calm, he hardly speaks. I think it is mainly thanks to him they pierced the enigma of the center of the Earth as it saved them from bad situations more than once and always with modesty.
Although this novel is a classic, I felt around in circles ... The three protagonists descend into the volcano, again and again ... All this lack of adventure, I was expecting something else ...
Jules Verne has a gift, through his writing, to make us believe that this novel is new and true while it was written in the last century and this is totally fictitious. The fact that there is a minimum of action in this work that I was able to go after. The facts and scientific descriptions are simple and understandable enough, and are mainly on geology and mineralogy. At worst, it's not a big loss if we do not understand certain words or phrases. The various illustrations of my edition to visualize the scenery but writing that even without images that is easy to visualize.
My opinion is somewhat mixed because writing is fluid but I do not like descriptions that add considerable length to the history and lack of adventures ...
