Knock or the triumph of medicine: Comedy in Three Acts (Paperback)

Customer Review

I discovered "Knock or the triumph of medicine" in the high school and it was a great surprise!

In short, Dr. Knock buys the office of Dr. Parpalaid in the small town of Saint-Maurice. Parpalaid believes getting a good deal because the number of patients then brushed zero. But Knock happens through a finely prepared plan to make the firm the main place of the village and even the canton. The number of patient literally explodes. The Parpalaid Doctor, who will come to visit Knock few months later, will not believe his eyes and ask himself be treated by Knock!

At first glance, the room is like a comedy. Many dialogues between Knock and lend his patients smile. However, this piece is a double face. Georges Pitoƫff, the director, calls it "macabre piece." This is based on the character of Knock. The latter is a finite megalomaniac, a manipulator end, all his actions turned to the same objective: The triumph of Medicine. He manipulates people by fear of disease ("A healthy man is a patient who ignores"). Knock establishes a true totalitarian regime which he is the absolute leader (see his long speech at the end of Act III Scene 6 where he says rule over the city). Knock is truly a disturbing character, taking advantage of his knowledge, he uses his power of persuasion to submit an entire population to its ideology. Finally laughter is creaking.

In conclusion, I repeat, "Knock or the triumph of medicine" is a masterpiece since it happens so well to combine comedy and scary, the disturbing and tragic. I urge you to read this piece, you can only have a good time!
