'Rio I.' 1986 was the first solo album by Mr. Mobius after the dissolution of 'TonSteineScherben', with which he became known to a wide audience at last. That it was a commercial success, of course, was also due to the compared to the 'Scherben' era considerably more commercial production, however zeitigte not commercially mass produced. Even today, it is possible the board - called treasure full of pearls German art song - with a few exceptions. 'Everything lie', the funny 'King of Germany', the melancholy (like 'king' repeatedly gecoverten) ballad 'Forever and you' and 'Junimond', the funky 'I live but' and the atmospherically dense 'At Night 'belong to the best that has been fixed to popular music in the German tongue in the past three decades on record. As for lyrics and compositions, sets 'Rio I.' in the 21st century standards unchanged. Arrangement and production - and that's in retrospect the only downer - but reflect on some unpleasant way back the date of composition. The so typical for the 1980s synth, drum computer and keyboard sounds encounter today a bit mad at - on the successors 'Stowaway' (1987) then took them also so out of hand that it (with the exception of self-deprecating 'Manager' ) is out rightly forgotten. Hardly imagine, would be on 'Let us dreh'n the thing' and 'all lie' actually listen real brass section - 'Rio I.' have the label 'milestone' deserves every right! In short: Rio Reiser's best album - a masterpiece, but also document its founding period.
