A Brief Sketch of handling:
The "Installation" is very simple: the supplied bag is attached simply with two velcro straps at the wheel frame, pushed the lock in the pocket and you're done. No annoying Herumgeschraube, which I find very pleasant.
The bag protects even in unfavorable road conditions (wet, dirty, dusty roads) the lock from dirt. For me, a big plus, because whoever had to take a smeared with mud castle in the hand before, know what I'm talking about. That the lock so of course still takes a decent repository, is also not to be despised. It rattles during the ride and not even in bumpy ground remains the case (and the castle), where it should be.
It may be a little more complicated to use than a normal lock. It must always be terminated z. B. in packed condition so that it fits in your pocket. However, these are perhaps 30 more seconds of time that you have to invest. Otherwise, the lock can be opened and closed very well, it hooked nothing.
NOTE: The key has to be turned completely until it stops. When he turns back just a bit, the lock does not open! Violence helps because then no further! ;-)
The length has hitherto been always sufficient to ... fix the wheel on a lantern / bicycle racks / can. A few centimeters more, would certainly good, but the lock would definitely be too heavy and too unwieldy.
With what we already come to the last point: the weight. It was no surprise that the castle is unfortunately quite heavy. Who wants to have security, there is currently not around it. Dear take a few hundred grams more than to have a lock that can be cut in seconds with a bolt cutter easily.
ATTENTION !!
Even the best lock does not protect against tire or saddle theft.
Personally, I find it rather pointless if you spend a lot of money for a lock and the bike stands in the morning without tires and saddle.
Therefore, you should also invest in a decent Pitlock. Beware of cheap offers, where it is an easy 5-Kant-Allen: Vandal perhaps enough, but a thief who regularly on "Accessories hunt" goes, has a so ...
Some safety clamps can be opened with a magnet.
The purchase decision should therefore be thought of something, even if a lack of tires is probably still more to cope with than a missing bicycle ;-)
And now a few words on the subject of safety:
That the Bordo 6000 apparently very easy to open, you can read anywhere. However, the end of 2011 was allegedly changed the lock cylinder - my bicycle dealers was certainly no longer in a position to said Poland keys to pick the lock. However, it is still up to you whether he would prefer to spend a few euros more for the Bordo Granit X-Plus. For this purpose there is to date no "quick-and-dirty" solution.
A member of the SSDeVs (German Association for Pick-Locking) has stated that even under ideal conditions as a lock can not be cracked in less than 20-30 minutes. Anything else would be lucky implausible or the castle had previously been cracked more often.
Ideal conditions: It is light, you have peace and quiet, the castle lies ahead on the table and can be twisted and turned, Toolbox is available ... - if I absperre my bike properly and in a public place, so should everything else prevail as "ideal" conditions for a thief. It is questionable whether the thief really exposes himself nor the effort and the risk, so to pick a lock.
Other methods, such as ice spray, hammer, impact wrench, bolt cutters & Co. have also not successful in this castle.
On YouTube you can see a couple of videos, like in a few minutes the lock can be cut with the Flex - in everyday life but which is probably not a thief try so ;-)
The largest vulnerability in this castle is currently the owner himself.
Therefore three clues why even the best lock will not help if one is careless:
a) prepared bicycle:
In large cities, a phenomenon that is not so rare. The "bomb-proof" bicycle is sawn and again temporarily "repaired" with tape. Who chaining his bike there, you've already lost. The tape will be settled, including the wheel lock lands in Transportation - low noise, relatively unobtrusive, 100% success rate.
Conclusion: Before chaining always check the bicycle railing on abnormalities. The police notify you when it is sawn.
b) the "Blue Man-trick":
It is partly easier to saw the railing, as the castle itself, because of the former to get there very well.
So a professional will not even make the effort and try to pick the lock. He chooses a method) or is even bolder: An artisan suit, a transporter with company logo and tool.
Hardly is the thief to ask if he really is a construction worker, when he starts to saw the railing. The action takes a few minutes and until the police are there, the wheel should be gone already, including transporters.
That is certainly not an everyday occurrence, and a 100% protection against such a thing does not exist.
Because it fails this time more on the environment, which will perceive the situation as "normal" and "non-threatening".
Conclusion: The more people, the less likely such an action. The wheel should therefore be attached to a crowded place. For a lamppost or public bike racks nobody feels responsible. Therefore a Radgeländer is (z. B. the front of a store) in which the owner at any time noticed if someone is working with Flex, recommended.
c) the patient thief:
He uses the night and really attempts of the most difficult method and tried to pick the lock on the spot.
Around 3 or 4 clock in the morning which is definitely no knowledge. Whether he however aufbekommt the lock under these circumstances is questionable.
Conclusion: The lock should be linked as closely as possible. So there is no play and the lock remains in the position in which it was attached. If the lock cylinder then towards the ground "peeps", it would be almost impossible to pick the lock.
Alternatively, it is of course still best when the wheel is to stand overnight in a closed place.
Although this advice now limited not directly on the product, I hope that it was helpful hints. The castle itself I give (with appropriate handling) in any case full 5 stars and would recommend it to anyone who wants to keep his bike even longer! :)
