And as expected, it is a complete success. The group found the folk rock sound that is his genetic fingerprint past four albums by showing us all what can be done to inventive, and of taking effective with a mainly acoustic orchestration, bass, harmonicas, the percussion, harmonium and some sparse touches of electric guitars. But it is of course something else: an exceptional voice, and that of Rosemary certainly is, soft, velvety, flexible at will one say, recognizable at first hearing (with no Billie Holiday in the grain) .
And then you have melodies, and this new album is not lacking inspiration. All pieces are fly starting with the opening title, When I ride that starts from the hip, or History of violence with its heavy and dark atmosphere, Ginger Joe lighter with its introduction to the banjo. The set alternates between rhythmic way (Fire fire) and melancholic compositions (Milena or Long is the night that closes the album beautifully in sobriety), and takes us all one more time in the great American West with its rocky soil dry, wooden huts, its sunsets and its bivouacs.
Hard to say if this album is better than the previous ones, without being a repeat, it is the continuity and constitutes a new stone in the construction work in Moriarty. And we enjoy it every time.
