Mountainous of Hubert von Goisern ...

Steep sounds, Vol.1 (Audio CD)

Customer Review

This went in quick succession. Came at 10/24/2014 Hubert von Goisern's "Film Music" in the market, now followed by another publication.

However, this CD has more documentary character. Goisern dug through several music archives and presented with "steep sounds" together a highly informative cross-section through pristine alpine folk music. From all Alpine regions (Austria, Switzerland, France, Italy, Slovenia and Bavaria). Who "mainstream suspicion" is holding a great addition with a long finish in the hand. The long list of 28 songs and a few sound collages could be more varied little. Goisern's motivation for this collection was, "the prototype of this music, its core from which things have developed later off - the unmistakable, unique" looking for. He further describes that the first instrument was of course been the voice, "about the song culture is very strong." Only later instruments such as the zither, the accordion or the alphorn did the vocals adds. Well, then I hear times in the 67 minutes into detail:

With different bell sounds as the cattle drive in the fall you will be attuned. Originally, these bells that were usually hung around the neck of the cows, drive with their bells the enemy demons on the way to the valley.
With organ and brass one is in a church in Heiligenblut (Carinthia) on "O Bruader Schau hin" attuned.
When Title No. 3 "Tam Kjer tece bistra Zila" from the Gailtal in Carinthia play hardly expected instruments as "Low Whistle" and a bagpipe prägente roles. An almost exotic blend that's fascinating! The "Low Whistle" is similar to a flute and is usually made of metal, but also produced other materials.
From Piedmont in Italy heard "La Tempesta" in waltz rhythm, while "Three Almschroa" the solo singing dominates. Often dialectal Title One can of course do not notice, but they have to be named because of the assignment as "Nume nöd gschspraengt" from Switzerland, a title with the harp as a solo instrument.
From the Aosta Valley is heard "Monferrina di-z Alpeun" proper and elated. One feels instinctively on the island of Ireland "A la Lord often the Dance" was added and thinks he hears tap dancing. However, with heavy, clunky mountain boots.
The No. 8 "The Küahsuacher" (cows viewfinder) of Heli Gebauer from Ramsau am Dachstein Mountains is knotless yodelling.
From Slovenia the "Kampl Dixie" comes into our office, a funny contribution with many women's voices.
The title "The Nazibruat, broke into the Adige" let me first clip. An Alpine protest song from the Passeiertal in Italy I really would not have expected. Hubert von Goisern writes: "Even from the Nazi era, there is a lot of material, because at that time wanted to capture such a cultural asset particularly well and comprehensively." (Note .: In the Archive of Folk Song plant). When asked why he had taken the Nazi breeding in the CD, said Goisern: "Yes, that's part of it is often the case shown by the townspeople, as if the mountain people of the core of Nazism would be but were also here.. and is a both. "
"In short," is really very short fall with 12:44 min., Making the title of honor. It is an example of how a "Stimmhorn" sounds and is played. I know the Stimmhorn but only as a tool to tune the organ builder of open metal pipes.
Female vocals from Lombardy (Italy) can be heard in "Preparem di un letto".
Now it follows from the home of Hubert from Bad Goisern Goisern Viergesang 'with the solemn "Kuahmelcher Yodel" (Kühmelker yodel). There is little surviving, especially unadulterated folk music from the Rhone Valley in France. One example is intoned with Solo violin instrumental "Las filhas de la San-Marti alla ve la fon Jeanneton".
A very interesting piece of "Sancta Maria" in Latin in Friuli (Italy) recorded hymn.
Extremely original umsummt us "The mosquito" in a recorded live version of "Jew's harp". Lt. Wikipedia is a musical instrument with "resounding tongue". "A manually excited elastic tongue vibrates through the open rows of teeth in the mouth cavity of the player and there is sonically changed by changing the size of the oral cavity and by breathing." Anyway, you can hear thin and thick mosquitoes varied according sonically flying through space. Delicious!
After an acoustic sheep hike still comes the folk music ensemble Burggen from Bavaria, one from Katice in Slovenia with "Da pa canyn", and an alphorn quartet from the home of the alphorn, the Bernese Oberland in Switzerland through the speakers.
What is a "Gstanzl", will ask some? This is a Bavarian-Austrian song form that is created as a mocking song is usually sung in three-quarter time as quatrains. Master were in it, among other things, the "Biermösl Blosn".
But here sings the legendary "Kraudn Sepp" some of his Gstanzln. The highlight is Hubert von Goisern exactly as on the "film music" again with his "Juchitzer (with Sabine Kapfinger and him).

Anyone interested in the real folk music, here has a diverse treasure trove on. A musical excursion through all foothills of the Alps. And a continuation also comes yet ...
