Disadvantages:
- On my laptop with Windows XP (SP3) failed to install. The Grammatiktrainer as such was indeed installed properly yet, but not the voice recognition included, which has a separate installer. On the other hand, leaves the Grammatiktrainer without speech recognition does not start but aborts with an error message. The ability to use the program easily without installing the speech recognition, you so do not be. On another PC with Windows 7 installation, however worked without any problems.
- The program runs (in my case, on the said Windows 7 computer) is not very stable, but hangs frequently, and indeed always reproducible in the same situations. If, for example, clicking on an exercise, but then realizes that they have been done before and will continue to click directly to the next exercise or return to the main menu, then the program will depend always on. Apparently it is only provided after graduating one exercise to the next or return to the main menu.
Benefits:
- The exercises are very clearly divided into 12 categories, so you can drive well what you want to practice:
1) El sustantivo
2 + 3) Los pronombres I + II
4) El adjetivo y el adverbio
5) Los números
6) El verbo I (present tense: Form and use, including use of ser, estar and hay)
7) El verbo II (past times)
8) El verbo III (Futur and Condicional)
9) El verbo IV (subjunctive and imperative)
10) El verbo V (infinitive, gerund, participle)
11) Las Preposiciones
12) La Oración
- Each of these categories is further divided into sub-categories, which then contain various tasks. These are all very numerous and varied. Some (few) are a little less profitable (Ex .: mapping exercises in which the female form you have to assign for example a male form of the noun from a list - that can be seen even without any knowledge of Spanish ...), but the vast number is instructive (often: cloze).
- For each exercise, there is a (or more) fields, where a click of the mouse grammar explanations can appear.
If you have the 12 categories by, you can take a final test and then delve into a tutorial each site on.
Conclusion:
Overall, the disadvantages are rather less important, but it dominate my view the advantages described, so four stars. One star deduction does not exist because of installation problems under XP (see above), because love simply due to my system (but otherwise stable and with respect to other applications without any problems running), but because of something unstable running way (see above). Although that is not so bad, because the interim results are well saved and you can carry on because after a restart where you left off, but it's annoying. The four stars are there for the numerous and varied exercises that make the difference for the better in the evaluation.
One notes at the end, for whom the program is most likely, in my view: The level of the Grammatiktrainer indicated from A1 to B2. However, the program is - different from the input stage A1 may assume - in my estimation no way for beginners. Although the grammar as such also includes the very basic things (present indicative of verbs, nouns sex etc), but you will (most) exercises simply can not therefore make a newcomer, because significantly higher than A1 beyond vocabulary skills are required. One can be expressed in one sentence do not enter the correct form of the verb in the present indicative, when the verb can indeed conjugate, the sentence does not understand and therefore do not know what is to be ever testified. I would therefore say you should in any case have reached the level A2 in order to really work profitably with the Grammatiktrainer can. In any case, the program is (despite the fact that you can show grammar explanations so) in my opinion is not so much to to learn the Spanish grammar, but to the purpose to consolidate learned to apply and to train (ie, too : Grammar Trainer ...). Substituting the program in this way and under these conditions, it makes (apart from the crash so) really fun, and indeed - because there is such a variety of exercises are - for a long time! I've been working for several months every now and then so, so I can say that the true value for money.
