Delivery / packaging.
Amazon as always great, ordered today, delivered tomorrow with Prime. The printer contains the usual, full cable set. But it is important for me allenfals the power cord, since the connection via my wireless runs. The packaging protects well, but the printer can also be easily removed from it (complete in bag with handle).
Commissioning.
Simply plug it in, install drivers and include Wi-Fi. The configuration for a fixed IP address to work with little effort. On a couple of things you should pay attention at Lexmark: a. According to wireless IEEE 802.11 (b / g / n) is the full ASCII character set permitted as security keys. For unknown reasons, however, Lexmark does not accept some special characters. I therefore recommend that the Trial-error method or a long key only of random upper / lower case. b. Immediately after installation, I have a firmware update performed what could be accomplished easily. Very good: IPv6 is supported! My System: Win7 Pro, 64-bit.
Optics / haptics / operator.
About taste can be worthy of debate - device is IMHO a little on large but functional. Positive horizontal paper feed with drawer. The operation is a breeze thanks to touchscreen, SmartSolutions and good driver options. The interface of the software on the PC is well structured, however, the scanning software crashes occasionally from. Apparently however, does not hinder the operation.
Costs.
The base price is certainly not cheap, but worth it for frequent printing, because the operating costs are lower than with comparable devices. In XL cartridges you get to about 1.5 cents / page (sw) to 9 ct / page (color), excl. Paper.
Daily Work.
The Lexmark 5500 (t) is a printer for demanding, though not a professional device, eg. For example, graphic studios. The manufacturer has thought of almost everything: paper level indicator for reserve compartment and output tray, smooth-touch screen, duplex for feeder and printing, web server embedded with large scale, options that meet almost every demand. Printing speed is super, text and graphics come in a few seconds and the ink consumption is acceptable. Class I find the ink tray: It is behind a flap and everything is easily accessible (not where the cartridges move as with the equipment). The scanning speed is sensationally good with about 5 seconds / page, maximum resolution of 1200 dpi. Something ugly is the access time. Restart the printer to the standby takes about 60 sec., From the sleep mode about 10-15 sec.
Conclusion.
I would buy the printer definitely be back.
