I admit it openly: I am not a fan of John Ottman. As the friend of director Bryan Singer and composer Cutter cares both about average as well as music of the respective films, to me is always the question whether one of these areas on their own requires more than enough dedication and if the music (in creatively, not what the timing concerns) does not rather suffer when it comes from someone who this - can not give his full attention aspect - me personally extremely important. By John Powell (responsible among other things easy for absolutely great soundtracks to Train Your Dragon 1 & 2) contribution to this series I was really excited; from "X-Men: The Last Stand" one may indeed keep what you want, the music is it beyond any doubt. The same applies to Henry Jackman (including Captain America: The Winter Soldier), who took care of First Class and surprised me very positively. In both cases, we heard several catchy, bombastic new pieces that remain a hanging long after the movie, still in my head. Prior to Days of Future Past my hopes rose when I found that Ottman's compositions to "Jack the Giant Slayer" were not even ill and gave rise to the right classic adventure feeling. These hopes were bitterly disappointed with the present soundtrack, however. If not bad in the narrow sense, as auditory accompaniment he does the job, so it lacks the largely bleak held Days of Future Past but completely on new signature tunes to uniform themes that would highlight this story as something special (which is the excellent film would really deserves). When idle-comfortable sluggish, step Ottman digs here only his old theme of X2 reproduced, which resonates at one point or another, instead of finally think of something worthy new. That would be just in this a fresh start signaling plot the perfect opportunity and have been more appropriate than anywhere else (if not a music of superior predecessor can be taken - that such a thing is not impossible for individual issues despite changing composers, for example, shows Harry Potter, where is reminded of John Williams in the later films). My taste has therefore unfortunately not taken all and. It certainly does not spoil the film, as far as I would not go because the music in the context as I have said at least works, but it prevents more came of it. Works by Powell & Co you can also listen super standing on its own and therefore sink into thoughts - that works out at Ottman's contribution to Days of Future Past not and I would also recommend to anyone. Since Singer again has the reins of the series in hand and in productions with a few exceptions (the first X-Men movie) always stick together closely with its domestic and Hofcutter, my fear now goes in the direction that Ottman also X-Men Apocalypse (2016) and all that follows will be in charge (of the offshoots apart times), which in the worst case more copy and paste actions with no real significant innovations introduced us, and thus at least disappear in the field of film music in the generic insignificance. In the best sense of the future films that reinforcement at the man with the multitasking in my view at least not friendship or not.
