Significant Other (Audio CD)

Customer Review

Two years after the highly erflogreichen debut "Three Dollar Bill, Y'all $" (which got thanks to George Michael Cover "Faith" platinum) reverses the formation of MC Durst and Borland Weirdo with a new producer (Terry Date) and altered sound robe back. Where in 1997 let out the uncontrolled anger with the help of Ross Robinson, wanted to tread new paths in 1999.
Melodic, catchy chorus-heavy - but not softened - and aimed at a wider audience. So they wanted to go about it this time. Finally self-reliance should be developed in order to break away from the Grain compare due to the last disk can. Accordingly, the title has been selected this time entirely characteristic: "significantly different" just.

As on its predecessor, also this shekel is initiated with an intro. This time announces a distorted voice (Fred Durst personally?) That now follows what you want to hear: Limp Bizkit, the worst band of all. With this warning, the long-Grille then starts rocking right and equally well with "Just Like This" los.
DC is clear that the guys from Florida to engage again proven crossover concept. The songs are based on Borland's usually simple but effective riffs, Rivers groovy basslines and Otto class rhythms. Frontman Durst adds his chanting and his rarely become Shouts, DJ Lethal refines the songs with his samples and scratches.
Everything not new, everything is not revolutionary, but it is expected even by Limp Bizkit.
Instead, strives to keep your change: On the one hand there are the rectilinear catchy rockers like "Nookie" (through which the band the final breakthrough), "Break Stuff", "9 Teen 90 Nine" and "Trust?".
Secondly, there are quieter ballad, partly melancholic songs like "Re-Arranged" (Class bassline of Rivers!), "No Sex" or "A Lesson Learned" (has this been going more towards Trip Hop). Similarly now the first time a pure hip hop track ("N 2 Gether Now"), represented for the band active support of Method Man (Wu-Tang Clan) and DJ Premier (Gang Starr, who is responsible for the class Harp Loop) fetched.
Ever gather the soft biscuits many guests on their second album. In addition to the already mentioned, to also give Jonathan Davis (Korn, as compensation for thirst review to 'All in the Family "to" Follow The Leader ") and Scott Weiland (Stone Temple Pilots) in" Nobody Like You "the honor of Aaron Lewis (Staind, background vocals on "No Sex") and Les Claypool (Primus, in the "Outro") are also one of the party. Not to mention Serj Tankian (System Of A Down), the actually in "Do not Go should sing Off Wandering ", and the then still not so far known rapper Eminem. But both finally found but no place on the album.
The texts have not changed much. Durst raps still about ex-girlfriends, who exploited and left him, friends who borrow money from him and no longer bring it back and of course sex. Also, the cap carrier can not trust anyone and must again say that one but no one can hold a candle times in prolliger way. In some places it is even really awkward and mediocre ("As for me I'm stuck with my dick in my hand"). Also indicative of the low intellectual claim of the CD is the fact that one is in need, the Backstreet Boys and the other soulless pop music on the radio in to diss "Outro".
The lyrical nadir for me, however, "Show Me What You Got". Again, a thank-you speech (as once "Indigo Flow"), again thank you look at companions and now even in cities of the first concerts. Was all on the last disc still acceptable makes here the suspected lack of creativity wide.
However, there are also texts (albeit few) that are ok, eg "Break Stuff" or "A Lesson Learned".
After over 60 minutes you find yourself torn between enthusiasm and uncomprehending shake of the head.
On the instruments the band accomplishes this again and again good to very good performance. In addition, Terry Date and Brendan O'Brien who delivered all the work at the controls and put down a fat production. Furthermore, the entire artwork (a true feast for the eyes) points across the board.
In contrast, there are also extraneous songs and failures as "Nobody Like You", "I'm Broke", "Do not Go Off Wandering" and "Show Me What You Got" (as the "Trust?" His Urspung in "Cambodia" - included on the Family Values Tour 98 Sampler - has).
In addition Durst makes his superficial lines many good songs broken.
Fans of the first album will most likely be the high aggressiveness miss, but the band seems to have found their true style. We recommend "Significant Other" mainly for beginners to crossover and New Metal genre. Who wants better texts, however, had better access equal to the classics of Rage Against The Machine.
