The book of poetry by pulling a red thread: the poems are of known female figures and women / lover of famous men. Of particular note are "Mrs Midas", "Queen Kong" and "Medusa" (at least the swirling images that evoked the long poems after reading around in my head). Many of the same Duffys poems short stories. Witty, pithy, often naughty and quite critically, not verschwurbelt. Duffy's poems give themselves accessible and not withdrawn (and are thus well suited for the teaching of foreign languages). Duffy leaves poetry look easy, and this band makes you hungry for more!
This book was launched for the first time in 1999 - the latest edition is very nicely finished and fits well with other volumes of poetry of the author.
