Two things struck me directly when unpacking. First I thought, "wow, that part is indeed smaller than my kit lens. It looked at photos but so great from", and secondly, "Wow, pretty hard." Well, yes, when setting up the lens hood, it is much larger. That's true. Unfortunately, this is not so Num wertig as the plastic panels for Nikon. They engaged not so clean, and when it is set up, you can not put the lens cover. This is only possible if one touches the lens hood to stow backwards. The lens cover is also located less than optimal. These were then also my quite insignificant criticisms, because otherwise I am excited about the qualities of this glass. The workmanship is very good. The lens consists mostly of metal and has a sluggish but thus very precise focus ring with the distance scale. An aperture ring is also available, but with my Nikon D3100 have to this Nikon typically always at minimum aperture (f / 22) provide.
The sharpness is top. From my D3100 I certainly can not get more out than with this lens. However, one must be able to hold the part only times still. I almost always shoot so with the smallest ISO and risking now and camera shake. For hand-held shooting at DX cameras, I recommend never longer than expose 1/125 sec. Dear shorter. You have to remember that one of DX has the image angle of 135 and no image stabilizer! The enormous detail sharpness reveals mercilessly every smallest camera shake. It may be that Nikon's own '85 in terms of sharpness is even better. For me, that's all overkill.
The focus manually me not so difficult as it can be and feared some reviews here in forums. Yes, I have to say even that I have more committee had to start with my 35 / 1.8er Nikkor despite autofocus. Now I have a total of more experience in photography in general, yet. Manual setting is to focus scale in the viewfinder is not rocket science! With a little patience and practice you manage to even scan moving objects sharply, assuming some planning. And even at maximum aperture.
About the bokeh you need to lose no words. It's just perfect.
At maximum aperture, however, are as well-even at the Kokurrenten, often seen significant fringing (wide and narrow green magenta), especially with strong contrasts. I say to myself, "what the hell, can be eliminated quickly in the image processing mostly.
Also, I've found that is dipped in direct backlit by the sun, the image in a velvety golden light. This may seem a failure of the lens to be (or not) - but a mistake that can be used creatively.
All in all I can this lens every price-conscious and ambitious amateur photographers recommend bedenklos!
