Customer Review

First of all: This review found are not listed together even when black model since they are identical, but on Amazon.

I have to find all the AV receiver the price range 400-600 ordered to the right for me basically. A true odyssey, one can say.
Previously, I was the owner of an Onkyo TX-SR313, his successor, who is SR333 at 200. It was my entry into the home theater world and I wanted to 2 years now simply more features that the Onkyo all lacked, notably the following:

- 2 HDMI outputs, since I own TV and video projector and a makeshift have been covering an HDMI splitter with its own power supply
- Automatic room measurement for more tailored sound because I have a small apartment, and me in particular the problem of resonances or "standing waves" increasingly tormented, especially in music in the bass range
- Networking functions via WLAN and Bluetooth for any music from your mobile phone

These criteria I had ordered and tested the following devices:
- Denon AVR-X2100W
- Onkyo TX-NR636
- Pioneer SC-1224
- Yamaha RX-V777 or only the 677 (almost identical, but 100 difference and the relevant differences come at the end)

Now I have not the time to evaluate and even more memories to all individual models and write why only for my test winner here, namely why I decided from all 4 manufacturers for Yamaha.

Benefits over Denon, Onkyo and Pioneer:

+++++ Room measurement YPAO with RSC (Reflected Sound Control) +++++
- The calibration takes less than 1 minute, the others measure and measure and come to the same results which distances and level terms
- Denon and Pioneer have also a super room measurement, but only the Yamaha has the Reflected Sound Control
-> Only those analyzed wave reflections as they occur on walls
-> I'm sitting with my back to the wall and had the range between 70 and 120 Hz some droning frequencies (one can easily find out with test tones)
-> The YPAO this already reduced significantly, but the blast comes still:

+++++ Parametric (!) Equalizer +++++
- The results of the YPAO can be edited, which has none of the other manufacturer
-> The adjusted by YPAO frequency responses can be divided into 5 bands including Q-factor, ie the bandwidth, adjust, something else can only expensive equalizer that you have to buy extra
-> The effect is significantly better than with conventional graphic EQ, the only fixed frequencies change any frequency ranges
-> I can for example be lowered to 77 or 99 Hz with more or less large bandwidth (Q-factor) areas

+++++ Dynamic volume control (Volume YPAO with Adaptive DRC) +++++
- No audible loss of quality due to compression such as the Pioneer (drawn up level sounded terrible, everything artificially loud)
- No changes in volume when switching, particularly known when switching between channels in PCM stereo and Dolby 2.0 / 5.1, stereo is always much louder

+++++ Network features +++++
- Wireless internet is quickly established that did not work at the Pioneer to myself after I get out was that the wireless receiver from Pioneer is working only to channel 11, but my WiFi runs on channel 13, I had to change this, we went to the Pioneer While, but after about 1 minute the connection was always off
-> The wireless receiver of the Yamaha goes well only to channel 11, when one considers it, the connection works but smoothly
- Net-Radio is easy to use and works pretty fast, Favortiten can be online on the vTuner site even more convenient manage (I have not used the remaining streaming services and have also no need)
- The device does not have, however, the only Bluetooth
-> This shortcoming stands in for me, because you just can about the Yamaha app stream (invisible by DLNA) his music from your mobile phone
-> It would be merely impossible to sound from YouTube videos via Bluetooth to send them to the instrument, the need I had, however, never, probably everyone here has to weigh

+++++ On-Screen Display (menu) +++++
- Real overlay menus on the screen, no switching of the video signal to the OSD
-> Onkyo always switches between image signal and OSD to, on the HDMI 2 output even no OSD is displayed, why?
-> Denon, there you have the video signal of "directly" (passes) on "processing" switch so that the OSD is superimposed on the video signal

+++++ HDMI pass-through +++++
- Real looping the video signal with the receiver, no matter what source you turn
-> Other devices you need to choose in advance which source is looped through, not here
- Only 2.5 watts in standby, the Onkyo does hereby, for example, 7 Watt

+++++ Video signal each input assignable +++++
- I can each input, and the component or pure audio RCA inputs assign an HDMI video signal
-> Network Radio, CD player, PC, etc. to get the image from the TV missed, so I can bridge such as commercial breaks with the sound of the radio or CD and see at the same time if the advertising is over
-> Usually has just a picture with choice of CD players, not so with the Yamaha!

+++++ Remote controls other devices +++++
- The old Onkyo I knew that he can control Onkyo CD players think the new TX636 could now operate the TV after having given him the appropriate code
-> However, the FB of Onkyo is always switched on the particular device in order, so to DVD, TV, etc., you want to operate the receiver again, you always have to first press the top of the "Receiver" button, annoying!
-> The FB of the Yamaha can be programmed for other devices, so that I can then use the DVD player, for example, play, pause, etc., the same time I can use the receiver's volume without me having to switch the FB

+++++ +++++ App
- The app to use the Yamaha is by far the best
- Responds quickly, has many functions
-> Using the USB Player is the best
-> Surround sound can be adjusted wonderfully, gimmicks like sound of a concert hall, where you can change room size, etc., or 7-channel stereo, in which you can move the sound from the front left to rear right, as mans need degree, is basically that the only balance control, I know when receivers!

But there are also a few small drawbacks that I miss:

----- Sound mode will not be saved for each audio signal -----
- Such as the Onkyo, there I can set separately:
-> Stereo -> Stereo or All Channel Stereo or Pro Logic, etc.
-> DD 2.0 -> Stereo or All Channel Stereo or Pro Logic, etc.
-> DD 5.1 -> remains DD 5.1 (logically)
- The Yamaha stores a setting for all sound formats, so either everything remains "Straight" (unchanged) or in a specific mode:
-> Stereo = Stereo
-> DD 5.1 DD = 5.1
or
-> Stereo = All Channel Stereo
-> DD = 5.1 All Channel Stereo

----- YPAO and certain sound settings not stored individually for each input -----
- I can not say, for example:
-> TV works with YPAO settings and bass and treble -2 +2
-> USB works without YPAO settings and bass and treble +4 0
- Which, however, can not receiver as it seems

Differences between Yamaha RX-V777 and 677, the 777 has the following additional features:
- 2 HDMI outputs (instead of 1)
- Phono input (= turntable preamp)
- Programmable remote control
- YPAO with multi-point room measurement, that is up to 8 positions measurable (instead of 1)

-------------------------
I hope this review helps anyone in his purchase decision. Maybe there are people who are looking for the same features as I. Then take the Yamaha!
If I have missed me somewhere, please be happy to comment, then I correct the still.

Update, 15/04/2015:
What I have found as a small flaw, but that's small stuff, but interesting nonetheless for some perhaps: the automatic switch that you indeed can set in steps 20, 40, 60, 90, 120 minutes (or something similar) refers, ALWAYS on a ausbleibendes HDMI signal. So if cable TV receiver from Yamaha but started and you leave the house, then comes the Yamaha for the appropriate time automatically to save power and wear. So far, so sensible. But if no HDMI signal is similar to mine, for example, only sound via RCA from the PC, the Yamaha is simply out while of gaming. : D The function I had so completely deaktiverien. The old Onkyo could who has apparently checked each incoming signal, whether analog or HDMI.
