Nerina Pallot has up on their anti-war song "Everybody's gone to war" from their last album "Fires" still can not place a proper hit. In Germany anyway .... As you wonder why it is now not succeeded with their second album. One reason could be the rather unsuccessful CD cover. That would be thought very superficially and therefore it eventually will not do so well! The music is the most important (or at least it should be!) And this is playful, with clever lyrics and actually fits like the fist on the eye in the charting landscape alongside acts such as Amy MacDonald or Pink. Unlike the Vorwerk is "The Graduate" namely much pop-heavy failed ("Real Late Starter", "The Right Side", "I do not want to go out"), but without seeming shallow! As emphasized in interviews of Nerina, it was - against all obvious suspicions that money motives of the record company were responsible - their desire to sound more pop! In addition to Poptracks Nerina has ("Illuminated Everything's", "When did I become seeking a bitch?") Their outstanding qualities as a singer-songwriter, guitarist and pianist in more rocking or even very thoughtful tracks ("Cigarette", "human" "It starts") expressed. In places it is reminiscent - as well as on its predecessor - to Sheryl Crow, Meredith Brooks or Tori Amos. Vocally convinced Nerina with her times more powerful and even more gentle vocals. The tracks have a good flow and sound very varied. Notable example are the spherical sounding, very gentle "Cigarette", the acoustic guitar number "Human", the very quiet "It starts" and the cheeky "When did I become seeking a bitch?". A star deduction there, because the whole big hit in my opinion is not present. For successful, varied music gives consistently without negative dropouts. You have to also manage once!
