Warhammer is a table game where it's always been about war and destruction!
Especially Dawn of War1 which is already very old (but I still like to play), brought a brute strategy battles war game on the home computer, with whom I've spent countless hours :)!
As at that time the continuation has come, I was happy like a child, and had thus struck immediately, the disappointment in the beginning was very large, many features of the first part were simply gone. Now I have alluded to it again and I want you to list exactly what bothers me, like what, etc.
Story: The origin of the Planet of the Blood Raven is attacked by orcs and later also other Xenos! During the course you play on different planets and then you have to push back a brutal alien invasion!
Gameplay: DOW2 is a mixture of RPG and RTS game, there is no base building, and no kind of Gruppenaushebung more, at the beginning of each mission you can choose 4 units that you want to perform in the "battle", but limit themselves, as opposed to Part1 95% on infantry, until 2Drittel can also lead a Walker in the fight!
Here is also equal to my biggest gripe! I am a RTS players of the old school, C & C, AOE, etc etc! Here offered especially the first part of Dawn of War a terrific gaming experience!
Here one may perform only 4 units in the battle, its own character, (leader of the Space Marines), and various other units, the group size of 1-4 Max have)!
So this sequel waived clearly on this brutal battle experience for me and many others but simply Warhammer Dawn of War or auszeichnetet! Here is added a more intrusive micromanagement, I was able to abgewinnen never much! Since each unit, special and variable additional skills (grenades, defense towers, revival, etc.) offers one is also forced to perform this well!
Also the level design (more on that later) is not convincing, since it hardly has a change, you have about 10 battlefields that can re-play again, because there are new missions to complete! So to fight with his few units by the Map! At the end of a most bosses waiting for us, which is sometimes more, sometimes less crisp, but certainly are a challenge even to the lightest level game.
In addition one can also play defense missions, but often are only an option later in the Games.
Each unit has a captain, died this one has to revive him, the troops die, you have it on certain checkpoints spread across the map repeat! Unfortunately, the opponents are also often above average in the majority so that it often is hardly feasible without massive losses!
Also new here is the experience points function, thus also increasing the main men in the level of (max 20), and can be equipped with better weapons and armor abilities! So what is left in a proper RPG quite well for me here but rather a bit out of place, especially since I've never really big changes by better weapons or armor realized in battles!
Equally new is that you can send its units in buildings (where but also opponents are entrenched)!
Graphics: The graphics are basically the only where you can find fault with anything, even today it still looks very good, the violence level was as compared to Part1 scaled down somewhat, but there is a nice effect fireworks on the screen, the partially destructible environment looks beautiful and detailed! Unfortunately, here comes a criticism to the levels actually all look the same! on the home planet you are fighting in some sort of desert landscape, which is installed with buildings where I had to think not only once to Star Wars and Tatooine! There are a few planets where we have fights here every planet its own graphic style (desert, jungle, industrial city)! The maps are repeated constantly, so that one plays only on about 10 maps,
From the technical side, so there is up to the carelessly designed and repetitive level design be faulted! Also runs on my machine on Max settings superfluid.
Conclusion: Dawn of War 2 is very difficult for me to judge, lovers of the first part as I run the risk of being disappointed. But the game will certainly find its fans, since not everyone on base building and great battles emphasis when it comes to RTS, basically this is a feature that is likely disappeared in recent years from the already ailing sector RTS! It has to decide on what he emphasizes more personally each own! If you want to more large-scale battles and troops forming etc. should again take the first part or other games, although graph Freaks not get their money more here (the first part for me still, even now looks very good)!
Personally, I prefer to stay at the first part, the easy the whole atmosphere to Warhammer, war, etc. over brings better! Also there is telling the story more exciting! Warhammer has never been a tactical game in the sense here it comes off opponents and contradicts to war against all his own mythology.
