I am from the photo tray, go walking and climbing, and have tested the following GPS cameras themselves:
* Fuji FinePix XP30 (14 megapixel, 5x opt. Zoom, 6.9 cm (2.7 inch) display, image stabilization, GPS, up to 5m waterproof)
* Casio Exilim EX-H20G (14 megapixel, 10x opt zoom, 7.6 cm (3 inch) display, GPS, image stabilized, the only no outdoor housing)
* Panasonic Lumix DMC-Tough FT3EG (12 megapixel, 4.6-fold opt. Zoom, 6.7 cm (2.7 inch) display, GPS, Full HD, image stabilized, 12m waterproof, 2m shockproof)
* Nikon Coolpix AW100 (16 megapixel, 5x opt. Zoom, 7.5 cm (3 inch) display, image stabilized, water resistant to 10m, cold-resistant, GPS)
* Sony DSC-TX100Vx (16 megapixels, 4x opt. Zoom, Full HD Video, GPS, 8.9 cm (3.5 inch) display, image stabilized)
NIKON AW100:
+ Super turned and shot quickly, no delay in the shot, or processing
+ Excellent images in daylight and flash on the same level as the Sony. Could not be better in this class. Color is during playback even better than the Sony.
+ Red-Eye not an issue, Nikon always already did
+ Very low noise and smooth, virtually no spots
+ Good battery life when off GPS.
+ Two Metallbefestigungsösen can be worn around the neck classic.
+ 40.5mm filter thread (!)
+ Single-handed operation or with gloves Two-hand operation via separate action operating concept)
+ Cover flap for battery and connections with all-over silicone rubber and double lock very robust!
+ In addition to Sweep Panorama (as everywhere: only reduced resolution) also classical Panoramaassitent (full resolution)
+ GPS localization Duration: Outside or close to a window it works quickly (when the last use is less than 6 hours ago, about 10 to 20 seconds until the signal, otherwise - Like most GPS cameras except Casio H20G: With only the GPS after a day all.
- GPS: the building does not receive, then there is no GPS tag of the image
- Camera can only be charged with battery removal. But outdoor you do not have power outlets! USB charging does not mention the manual.
- In artificial light too little compensation, very red photos.
- The manual mentions no way to update the map. Does not go well.
I can not understand why Nikon camera in a G-sensor (motion sensor) incorporates, but does not like using Casio battery saving for positioning without GPS. (Perhaps Casio has since a patent on it.) Without the negative effect of the GPS battery (Casio shows that it is different), would be the Nikon the top shot in GPS compact segment.
ALL IN COMPARISON (Ranking)
Without the Fuji because that has disqualified for lack of image quality yourself.
* Quality daylight shots: ++ Nikon, Sony ++ ++ Panasonic, Casio + (good middle class, still very acceptable)
* Quality Flash: Nikon ++ ++ Sony, Casio + Panasonic +
* Quality Tungsten: Casio ++, Sony + Panasonic +, + Nikon (too red)
* Red-eye problem: Nikon ++ ++ Casio, Sony + Panasonic + -
* Battery life without GPS: Casio ++++, Nikon ++, Sony + Panasonic + (!)
* Battery life with GPS: Casio ++++, Nikon, Sony--, Panasonic-- (!)
* Robustness: Panasonic ++ ++ Nikon, Sony (Display), Casio-- (no outdoor housing, ausfahrendes lens)
* Easy to use: Casio +++, Nikon ++ (Delete cumbersome), Panasonic (scene modes fiddly), Sony-- (touchscreen useless concept, Sonnenlichproblematik, cold, gloves)
* One-hand operation, for example when climbing: Nikon +++, Casio + (power button too small and poorly placed), Panasonic + Sony --- (not available)
SUMMARY
Anyone who wants to take pictures with GPS, which has to decide: Do I really always remember the GPS at home off again, so that the camera the next time you use still has power in it? Is it acceptable that photos are sometimes taken without GPS tag? Or alternatively I am ready always 10 to 20 seconds to wait for the localization is done? Then the Nikon is the first choice, who wants a full metal case reaches for much slower and eat their battery Panasonic.
But if I go hiking for several days or immediately reliably geotags would have in the picture anytime and anywhere, without emanating me the power, then there are only two "options: The Casio EX-H20G ... or iPhone 4S. With two but one should not dive, stumbling or digging in the sand. ;-)
