I am myself in the optics industry veteran and have tested the lens according to the rules of art -
at long focal lengths, it is mercilessly good without color fringes, without much edge blurring.
In wide-angle, there are approaches of blue color fringes, which is the compromise.
I am amateur bird photographer and need the long zoom and possible good low light performance.
For that, I would highly recommend this camera very much! But man has to learn to ride the horse ;-)
The best settings are Auto ISO but with a limit on 1 / 30sec - so let the camera always the lowest möglische Iso number.
And with 1/30 creates the stabilizer is to generate sharp images at full zoom out his free hand.
The autofocus manages through branches continue to provide back sharply through a bird.
I always stand on serial high speed, so I can choose if I'm just a single photo or an immediate burst.
The images of the sensor with tiny pixels are in the 50% view already very good,
I have several Canon Eos with telephoto lenses that provide far this resolution
Here to a self-explanatory comparison test, with the predecessors P510 and the EOS600D with 300mm L lens
even with the Canon 1,4xTC comes not so close:

Another test on the impact and usefulness of the digital zoom the P600 can be found here:

With the digital zoom you have to first set time apart, here Nikon is not very user-friendly.
In fact, use the Crop Modes (eg 8M) first the optical zoom alone before interpolation using,
and this point is not erlärt or even visible. Too bad, because it works.
Another minus point is the proscenium viewfinder. If you are already farsighted and standing in the sun,
you can display the yes no longer use, the proscenium is mandatory. And that's just pathetic and not up to date.
It is a disgrace that we must daily there and with which close and color-shifted image as you
has to work. I'd like to double that paid for a comfortable viewfinder!
The lack of RAW mode is not important to me, when I return with 3000 images from the jungle of Central America,
I lack the time to rework since. The photo must be possible immediately as good as any. As the P600 is very far.
My conclusion - at the moment by far the best superzoom market for my long focal length needs.
I buy at once, in spite of the viewfinder.
Nikon, let this wonderful lens as it is, and give me a good viewfinder where the daily enjoy!
Maybe a chip with slightly larger pixels, here the oversampling is still at 60x already considerably more than necessary.
Then what against the competition!
