Batavi (Audio CD)

Customer Review

"Batavi" by the Dutch Pagan metallers Heidevolk is a bit darker and with a more serious tone (thematically it's about the struggle of the old German tribes against the Romans) than the previous albums. Beginning of the predecessor "Uit Oude Grond" a big step away from the beer or metseligen Schunkel-folk metal, so there are now at least two major steps. This can already be seen on the cover: dark colors dominate, also the two drinking horns were removed from the logo.
Nevertheless Heidevolk remain stylistically faithful. It still is limited to the basic framework of two guitars, bass and drums, Keyboardgeklimper there is none, and no unnecessary Herumgetröte. A violin can be heard once, otherwise you need for additional instruments. Of course the band's trademark, namely the two-part singing is still one of the party. No, this is not, as sung in countless other bands, alternately growls and clear, here to sing two singers in a clear voice at the same time in Dutch what Heidevolk gives lots of independence. Catchy choruses Parts and there are also, although these still stood out on "Uit Oude Grond" a little more, I think. For the new output is a more versatile track and also in parts aggressive.
For my taste, the predecessor is a bit better, but "Batavi" is nevertheless a strong board, the fans of the band anyway, but also genre lovers stand safely on the shelf or put in the player.
