Jonas Kaufmann made his name as a versatile opera tenor in French, German and Italian repertoire. Even as a concert -and Liedersaenger one must experience it. And now he refreshes operetta from the years 1925-1935. The selection of performances spanning from the boisterous "Diwanpueppchen" to the dramatic "Song From The Life Of Schrenk". Each song draws a different atmosphere and calls for the Einbildungs and expressiveness of the singer, the insinuating and seductive singing "Have a blue sky bed" to the triumphant "A song goes round the world." Fortunately Jonas Kaufmann possesses these characteristics well enough and has a very pleasing voice which opens into the ups and verbaritoniert in the lower elevations. The soprano Julia Kleiter accompanied Kaufmann the "Diwanpueppchen", "Give me goodbye hands again" and "lucky that I remained". I think her voice very suitable for the music of the time. This deluxe edition includes besides the bonus DVD and a booklet with explanations about the time in which this music was created and comments about the program. Honestly, at first I was not particularly interested in this CD, because I guess is Jonas Kaufmann as opera singer, but I do not trust this artist (who has already led me to Wagner and verismo), and he does not disappoint here. This CD is a treasure to you learn to appreciate more with each repetition.
