So when I unwrapped this model the first impression I got was: "This is a deep fryer for aliens!"
It's big, bulky, round with lots of dark accessories ...
Joking aside in the box we find:
Fryer
Two removable trays
A plastic spoon levels
A power cord
A cookbook
A book / manual
All is well made, nothing shakes, everything is assembled.
The trays have a coating of teflon (or equivalent) to avoid the foods to stay hooked when cooking.
Positive: The trays and even the plastic cover is removable and washable.
The double-tray system is interesting and well designed.
The center handle is divided in half to remove the one for meat without burning.
The cookbook is interesting and shows an entire device using panel without it being too complicated.
But good traditional habits persist and are thought to fry than cooking with a deep fryer.
The manual contains the fryer base uses.
With cooking time, weight etc.
I tried the first fried mac cain tradition (and no I am not advertising for the brand, but it is clearly indicated in the SEB cooking manual for use without a drop of oil ...)
I must admit that I was very puzzled to have fries WITHOUT oil.
But after cooking, I have had to recognize that the fries were ready as agreed without surprise.
Negative point: I have not found them as crispy as in a deep fryer "classic".
But it is well cooked and pretty good.
And obviously no smell of frying!
For "classic" fries made with real potatoes from home must be put (by weight) a little oil.
They remain a tone "below" at the cute, but that's changing eating fries that do not bathe in an oil bath.
They are not heavy to digest, obviously it's more "healthy".
For the fries I put portions of about 500/700 gr with a baking 20-25 minutes.
It's still longer than with a normal but largely reasonable fryer.
I have not tried the fries, but also the spring rolls.
I put no oil in the tank and there no problems.
They emerged immaculate, just right.
FYI: 6 spring rolls, cooking approx. 15 minutes.
The second platen also allows cooking meat.
We must follow the manual for the cooking time and use the timer of the unit.
I tried with a burger ...
... The result was just okay.
Cooking is not made from below as in a pan but all around because the trays turns and it's very hot forced air that cooks food.
I, who like rare meat I had a little trouble adjusting the cooking time.
It will take several tries to get something equivalent but not that close.
The Actifry is a miniature airplane turbine noise.
The heat on the walls remains reasonable, but I do not recommend children to touch the lid during cooking.
This fryer, or rather cooking appliance is not to be taken for what it is presented, but as a new way to cook without oil.
This is neither worse nor better than cooking "classic", it just takes getting used to.
In short, a "hybrid" multi-purpose device and where to get used to appreciate it.
Enjoy your meal!
