Disappointed with what Toynbee 'The Great Adventure of humanity is for me the Doeuvre leader. That book (War and Civilization) attempts to demonstrate that, simply speaking, the war always turns against those who make it. In other words, the wicked are always punished in the end. 1. But the alignment of facts quickly becomes tiresome 2. demonstration is unconvincing (because it is obvious that more or less long term, an assailant always ends up wiping a setback ...) 3. Some theses have seemed doubtful (ex. Charlemagne's empire would have collapsed due to the dispersion of the Beard Fleurie on the northern and southern fronts ... Apart from that it is difficult to judge what would been the story if another policy was applied, the feudal fragmentation of the kingdom between his grandchildren son is not mentioned). In short, I do not recommend it and got bored.
