not perfect - but it's fun, is handy, practical and a round thing

Looking for a suitable tablet, I've tried a dozen different about Tablets.
I've been looking all the time to Android camp, because there were good reasons for it, but now I ultimately ended up with iPad Mini - and I have the "serious" decision so far absolutely no regrets.

My motivations to buy a tablet, were mainly:
Having to surf, email boot eternally long on the sofa without the notebook -
- Internet Radio + Play MP3 from your music library
- Quick access to extensive photo collection
- Games and Apps for my kids

The flat-rate Apple adulation I do not want to indulge me. Initially, there were quite a few criticisms. Total true for me but the package, particularly in connection with a NAS and it's fun to work with the iPad.

Height / weight / BATTERY:

The 8 inch size is perfect for me - suitable mobile but also for the couch. 10 inches too heavy to be held longer, surfing on a 7-inch display makes permanent not fun.
Meanwhile, Samsung recognized the grade 8 the trend towards 8 inches size.
The iPad Mini with about 300 g and a pleasant dimension can easily keep a long time. Through the narrow lateral frame, the iPad can even-handed (the thumb to scroll up and down) serve well. I find great!

The battery rocks. 8 hours always go, but also 10 hours. Are not a problem when you are surfing the net or just listening to music. And the device is not hot as in some other devices where a high performance battery is installed.

DISPLAY:

About the display quality is debatable, clearly. Writings are a bit pixelated and not really sharp edges compared to HD displays, which are also available in cheaper tablets. But it is not too bad considering the manageable 8 inch segment looks at times. I am particularly convinced the good / uniform illumination of the display, which I often felt to be deficient in other devices. No extreme gradients on the display surface or the like.

However, I must mention that I had to order only 3 minis before I caught an acceptable copy - it was frightening how different the variance in the color reproduction (particularly evident when different iPads next to each other sets). Time reddish muddy, sometimes yellowish to ... read to me (ie no blue tinge) may well warmer illumination but if the mountains are pink with my Skibildern, the fun stops for me.
The fact is also that the display contrast is not great - but it can also be quite helpful, because reading is so much on the eyes, when viewing pictures that does not stand out.

CONNECTIONS / INTERFACES:

Wireless reception is ok, but is quite fast weak when a door / wall between the router and iPad comes.

Bluetooth for music playback on a Bluetooth adapter to my HiFi system worked initially not - discontinuations particularly if accompanied by surfing, chopped playback and underground sound quality. The Apple Service wanted to make me knows that it may be not be disclosed to Apple. With all Android devices, the sound was impeccable! After longer despair came a seemingly-saving software update to 6.1.3. - And lo and behold, everything is working the way I want to.
What here but quickly annoying: I need 4 clicks to a Bluetooth device I've activated when required - with modern Androidsoftware I just need. 2

Missing interfaces "with the outside world" as USB, instead annoying synchronization via iTunes for me were always the reason not to look only towards Apple. Even now I find the iTunes binding absolutely annoying and far from comfortable. What seems simple since the transfer in Android by FTP, NAS or PC, if you just need only a browser and file copy + paste must know. I have the "problem" solved, that I now use a NAS device from Synology, and in conjunction with the File Explorer app data can be quite good upload and download! Also photos and music can be copied locally on the fairly good Synology apps without iTunes on the iPad either. The Apple apps for music, pictures, etc. I do not need and save myself all Sync with iTunes.

MEMORY:

16GB were not enough for me, I then finally landed in 32GB and am received with a NAS drive a good combination, with whom I have also to 2TB more data access.
Of course, the prices for the extension to 32 or 64GB are an impertinence, but you have to bite the sour apple, if you do not manage with 16GB or one has to rely on much more open devices with Android.

SOFTWARE:

For me, ultimately the reason to stay at the Apple Mini. A perhaps too little attention argument with many users, rush etc. only on pixel density. For Apple iPad, it indicates the size adapted Tablet Apps - Apps that makes thoughtful, visually and functionally appealing (Compare simply once the mobile.de App on Android and iOS!).
Sure, the app store much more apps are chargeable - of useful apps I am also willing to invest one or two EUR. Crashes There has never been the way.

KEYBOARD:

Really good! Write longer texts (eg reviews :) is not a problem - vote key size and spacing, umlauts are immediately available without Shift. In Hochkantformat half display is taken not equal. The improved 2 thumb-operability through the split keyboard is indeed thought nice, the end of the text (long emails, notes ...) slips so but under the keyboard halves and is no longer legible. That's nonsense.
