For the MacBook Air 13 "(beginning of 2014), as I have, the steel rail is completely unsuitable. The insertion is possible with skill, but this may scratch and cracking described in other reviews I can only confirm.

The apparatus as a whole (Castle / cable / stainless steel rail) is very chic and feels safe and stable, but are more minuses for use with MacBook Air:

- The rail causes the MacBook does not sit back, but tall (hugely annoying when something attached sideways
Tipping the MB)
- When closing the MB rail rubs against the steel frame of the screen (I have here two ugly scratches arisen!)
- Just rub the lock in open / close of the MB on the back of the MB screen, which makes also scratches

Conclusion:
Send apparatus, but with MacBook Air: Stay away!
