Even though there are only excerpts, I have decided for this CD because I already own several recent photographs of the Christmas Oratorio and connect with this certain sentimental memories here. Of course, Karl Richter is now "out": the worn tempos, a worthy but not exactly in the modern, professional glossy format singing choir, all that alienates him who with the early music combines only the historical performance practice of today. All other listening certainly happy inside as a Great Karl Richter was. His Bach interpretations had format, and a bit of interest in the way Bach once was seen, one must presuppose at listeners of today.
But above all: what vocal soloists were gathered here! If only because of the two tenor arias by Fritz Wunderlich is worth this CD. And maybe they seduce one or the other, is to provide total intake judge.
