Asmodee 001919 - Hotel, Board Game (Toy)

Customer Review

Hotel was one of the favorite games of my childhood / youth, mainly because the visual component has personally enormously increased the fun for me. The comparison to Monopoly is fully justified, since both games are exclusively driven by the luck of the dice the player. However Monopoly me simply takes far too long. Especially on a night when one would like to make several board games, Monopoly has always been one of the games that has been terminated with an intermediate result. Because forever makes me Monopoly no fun, because even the game material, in comparison to hotel, is totally unappealing. So Hotel thrives on similar principles but a much better game, or spaßigeren optics. Even after many games, it's always fun to ask the real building and watch as the miniature empire grows on the board.

But I have so many times asked myself playing, why not publishing times rouses and this eye-game missed a zeigemäßen look and maybe improve some details of the tournament schedule.

And then in 2013, voila, I look at a report on a board game fair and can not believe what I'm seeing: HOTEL finally gets his well-deserved re-launch. Great.

So I ordered the game and fix me razed to the assembly, which although gestlatete similarly friemelig, as with the old version, but still incredibly fun to play. This time, I have all the parts of the building (plastic + plastic) carefully glued, so that the small hotel better keep playing and can be done in the Box fast.

Oh yes, because we have the first problem the new edition:
The carton is definitely bad planning. Meanwhile, since many publishers are trying to create a compact, cabinet-friendly cardboard Format (all of which were greater in the 80's and 90's really no inter-based (or the cabinets: D)) are unfortunately made compromising handling - So also here. Because the principle of the game has always been that all the buildings fit in structured format in the game box. This worked in the original version super, also the new edition in the 2000s still offered some comfort, but in this variant the went terribly wrong. Because I personally have no desire, for 20 minutes after the end of the game rumzuwerkeln until all building fit somehow more bad than good in the box. So I have got the plastic liner looked and unceremoniously herausgschnitten one of the interior walls, as among the Gelschdeinen and Co. is loads of space. And voila now fit all the buildings simply in the box. (I am yet uploaded some pictures.)

The gameplay remains the same: Buy Land (which must be compulsorily sold for half the price if there is no building was even built), erected the beautiful building, construction inputs in front (in this issue similar to the red carpet Very cute.) And cashier your teammates really nice. Well, or you're going to stop itself, driven by the competitors really into financial ruin. Hach, what fun: D

Since I have never had the 2000ender variant, only played with others, I can not remember exactly whether some of the eye-catching for me changes have been made already in this variant. Because I have my "retro" version compared to the new edition, while both the structure of the playing fields, as well as the plot map has changed. Instead of 4 free inputs and free building, there is the option of 3 free inputs is now 2 possible free building in the new edition. This changes the game play even once clearly. In addition, the cost of some hotel were changed. The former president, now in similar look is celebrating its revival was so incredibly expensive the purchase and construction of the buildings, that this area was often free in the old version while playing, since the probability of bankrupt go directly to the hotel at the beginning, was nearly 80%. That's no longer the case. So used to be the Taj Mahal, which is now Al Khalifa called, as well as gar nich profitable (even that has been modified) and the French hotel that now bears the name of "La Reine", possible on the game board 2 additions had less so that it is hardly worth, this hotel to buy, because the Mitspiele had set usually faster their inputs on the playing fields. Similarly, often happened to the buyer of Fujiyama Hotels (now Dragon Gate). What, however, was not changed, is the completely unbalanced price-performance ratio at the former Boomerang Hotel (now Reef Resort). But to my surprise, and I'm not quite sure if that has anything to do with the changes to the board and the general pricing, this hotel stood out in the last few rounds no longer produced so, or did not mean long so much danger, as in my old variant.

If I summarize all the criticisms, it would result probably 4 star. But for me, is an important aspect of this game which looks and this was extremely enhanced. The new style is incredibly cute, comic way and poppy-colored. Gone are the days of '80s architecture Crime Chic: D
The idea that you now jetsettet a plane virtually at clouds and the former bank and the comic, ugly office are an airport control tower and hangar now, earning single axle only for the fact of Creativity bonus. In general, the buildings are now more varied, striking and gesaltet fresh. Many different materials make sure that the style of the game is completely new now, without the charm of the iconic original case will be the loser. Transparent buildings are now in addition, shining facades and huge plastic sheets. It's a feast for the eyes, which makes playing for a lot of fun - especially for kids.
The manual has been adapted to the overall concept and also the box shines with knallbuten 3D renderings in Neum shine.

For me HOTEL TYCOON is an absolute Fre revisiting of a classic. And the "defects" fall for me not strong enough significant to devalue the overall game itself. Of course HOTEL TYCOON is an absolute gamble, but then deduct it stars because in a round players earlier times pleitete addressed than others, I think at least as unfair as ridiculous.

My Conclusion:

Great game. Great look but above all a really great price.
