First: By applying the eye the camera gets better stability; less pictures are blurred.
Second: You can see the image as it is. That is also an over- or underexposure can - within certain limits - see. It can, for example, as opposed to a DSLR does not happen that you accidentally still had a wrong attitude and therefore all the pictures are stark lack exposed. Because you'd already perceive namely in the viewfinder. The DSLR viewfinder displays a the advance, as one would see only afterwards or on the monitor screen. You get used to very quickly, and would no longer miss soon.
This has led me to an interesting development: Considered I initially a digital viewfinder still a necessary evil and bad substitute for SLR viewfinder, it is now so that me with my dSLR (Nikon D7000) extend the additional information in the viewfinder.
Beautiful is also the possibility to view the pictures shot by the viewfinder in very high quality (the E-PM2 has when viewing a much better view than during shooting).
Had before the VF-3, I found grauselig (dreadful color, image too small).
