Normally, the animals are so arranged that they also survive a harsh winter. And if not, well, this is natural selection. The winter feeding that we make, is not appropriate to the species basically. Now that I have decided to do it again (and unfortunately by people who believe themselves so better than I know about, a lot of criticism experiencing), I do it at least the birds not easy. For example, the metal perches are not padded to my columns in any way, or offered no other conveniences.
In this Erdnußsäule I even, as I said, all perches away. And yet it is very well received. Even many sparrows - sparrows in High German - are now able to cling to it and to pick the best for himself out. The rest falls to the ground. And there wait long Others who are not so clever, but they are also hungry. So all have a chance, because too lazy and comfortable life must not be for the strong. Maybe that's bullshit, I'm not an expert, but something I have observed over the years and learned it. To me at least it is a joy - and the animals too, I think.
