I have to say the US version of this game, and I have to, I'm thrilled! The graphics are a true masterpiece, even though I'm not a fan of the cel-shaded style (Sly Raccoon and now Okami times excluded), I must say that this looks just fantastic here (in contrast of Zelda Wind Waker, whose graphic style I did not like - but gameplay was great, as in Ocarina of Time or Twilight Princess (whose graphic style I just love)). From gameplay wise, it is like a mix of Devil May Cry and Zelda. The combat system reminds one of that of Dante, fast and action-oriented, (wall) double jumps and the simple yet complex control of the wolf with a still significant difference: Amaterasu, the sun goddess and main character of the game can be with the so-called "Celestial Brush "give a distinct advantage. You can, for example, obstacles in the world so easily "paint away" or "wipe". Thus often puzzles come where you have to apply this technique. Example: a wooden door blocking the way, with the Celestial Brush painting we then simply a horizontal line at the gate, so the wood is zerschnibbelt because this horizontal line is a kind of sword attack. Or the bridge collapsed, then we paint a halt back to get ahead. But that's not enough, this brush to be used (time stands still, and the environment is black / white when applying Celestial Brush) can also serve as magic, this one has to "paint" certain symbols the progressing of the game (Blitz , wind etc.) learned, there are a whole. 13
The environment, however, is like in Zelda, there are no levels but a freely explorable world where you can chat with residents of villages to accept quests etc. etc. Well, as a wolf can not talk (and people they see only as Wolf can, and not in its true form) one hears mostly only. Issun, a small hmm..Floh like creature speaks then for "Ammy", is thus something like "Navi" or "Taya" from the N64 Zelda, works on the same principle, when Amaterasu can interact with an object, Issun jumps quickly then and you need only press "X".
The really interesting thing about this game, but is probably the main character, a sun god named Amaterasu Okami, which is in Gestallt a wolf. The story is probably a well-known from many other games. A god named Shiranui, also in wolf form, has heads 100 years ago Orochi, an evil demon with 8, struck down with the help of a human. He and Shiranui have imprisoned the demons and sealed by means of a sword. 100 years later, when you start the game, you see someone of the temple, is caught in the Orochi enters, and the sword herausziet what is the seal. Thus Orochi is free again and can continue his reign of terror. Just stupid that Shiranui has used up all their strength in the struggle and death at her all the 13 Celestial Brush skills were distributed around the world. So you have to find as Amaterasu all 13 before they can enter Orochi against.
I can recommend this masterpiece, it is perhaps one of the last for the Playstation. 2
