Yesterday I finished Resident Evil 3 on the Gamecube.
Resident Evil 3 Nemesis is the end of 1999 / early 2000 on the Playstation and almost simultaneously released on the Dreamcast and PC. In 2003 there was also a realization on the Gamecube, the only 1 unlike Resident Evil 1, however: 1 was ported. Technically the game is thus equally on all systems.
The game was developed by Capcom as always, but this time no longer Vigin Interactive, but by Eidos Interactive published. More about this later.

Story:

Resident Evil 3 - Nemesis, the Japanese original Biohazard 3: Last Escape is, playing in front of a few hours and after the events of Resident Evil 2. The main character is known from the first part of Jill Valentine. Jill was suspended of its special unit STARS and is reflected by the now completely overran by zombies Raccoon City. She is also looking for her partner Chris Redfield, who is swallowed by the earth since the first part. During the game you meet very quickly to the Hauptbedrohnung in the game, the eponymous opponents Nemesis. This was programmed by the company Umbrella on killing all the members of STARS and is equipped for this purpose with a rocket launcher and can even open doors. Nemesis can not be killed and accompanied or followed a whole throughout the game.

Gameplay:

Resident Evil 3: Nemesis is a Resident Evil of old style. It plays like its two predecessors, but differs in some points in some cases significantly from Resident Evil and Resident Evil 2. The most important feature of Resident Evil 3 Nemesis is next to the introduction of live-action events, not to be confused with Quicktime Events. At crucial points of the game, for example, when one encounters Nemesis, you get a choice of two options. If neither option is selected, the game will decide the further course of events. Mostly you can choose to get away from Nemesis or to combat it, the rich variety in the game, however, is remarkable, and the course and even the end of the game are affected by the decisions that you meet. A very interesting approach, however, is used exclusively in Resident Evil 3 and so far in any other part of the series.

Another significant change is the possibility of using a special Nachfüllgerätes ammunition to create for the gun, the shotgun the grenade launcher and the Magnum itself. This can be found in addition to the conventional ammunition often two different types of ammunition powder which can be combined in different ways. Thus, from powder A + B, the powder C, mixed to this, for example, again with powder B obtained acid grenades. Resident Evil 3 Nemesis is comparable in scope with the first two parts and can be played in a few hours, depending on the exercise. Early in the game you will be the first time given a choice whether you want to play through the game in Easy or Hard in. This decision is not easy, with the Hard difficulty probably the normal difficulty the predecessor should accordingly. The differences are considerable. In Easy one is showered with ammunition and weapons from the outset outright, you may save indefinitely often and Easier opponents. There is also an assault rifle with two full magazines. A real challenge in this difficulty so absent and so well directed Easy to complete newcomers. In hard but you get what you expect from Resident Evil. I started with hard and had hardly seen for example with the first inevitable Nemesis fight serious problems and have land. The emerging later Hunter have added hard for me, which is probably because of the fact that I had to fight through the game myself due to a mistake in a live-action event complete without Magnum.

Nevertheless the game was to create good and gave me up in the short moments of frustration a lot of fun. Only the newly introduced Dodge feature has not promised me, that makes, in my view what it wants. Some points in the game were almost unplayable, because the key to avoiding the same as that, with the aims. With slow weapons such as the shotgun, I am therefore hardly come to defend myself, because Jill simultaneously just jumping around with several enemies and even aim of which after an evasive maneuver somewhere else.

Censorship:

Resident Evil 3 Nemesis had to take harsh criticism by the players, as it was heavily cut and censored.
After the first two parts of Resident Evil by Virgin Interactive was published for the first time Eidos Interactive, the publisher of the third part. This would definitely prevent indexing of the game in Germany, as it was for example Resident Evil 2 was given. That Resident Evil 2 from this point in the original version (later versions of the game have been cut) was no longer allowed to be advertised, resulting in lost revenue and should not happen in Resident Evil 3. The result was such a strong censorship that you can take 16 version only seriously difficult the game in the German FSK. So it is no longer possible to shoot enemies heads, there is no more to see in the game in the video blood and to make matters worse is defeated opponents resolve after a brief flash in air. Among the atmosphere suffers significantly, however, there is not only cosmetic changes.

Following initial playthrough you switch next to the series typical locker key and the Mercenaries mode freely. In this you have to fight for time on a predetermined path with specified weapons through rooms with enemies. In the uncut version of the game there is something for everyone completed opponents a few seconds time, in addition, in the cut version, however, is obtained only in animal opponents a time bonus, making a good showing in the German version impossible. Thus missed an unlockable weapons and items, the Mercenary mode the German version can be so completely save.

However, the version variety is quite large in Resident Evil 3 and it already requires some research to get the right version. Thus, the UK and the American version are not the same as the Japanese version. In the Japanese original one zombie is knocked off at the hospital, the head of a Hunter. In the UK and US version this scene is including splatter sound in place, the head of the zombies, however, remains on the body. In addition, there does not seem to be possible in the US version of the game, lying enemies cede his head, in the UK version but already. Whether consciously or cuts were simply something has been overlooked, is not known.
Really complicated it is, if you factored even the reactions on other consoles and new editions on the PC (such as the Xplosiv series). So here to take on an uncut game is more a matter of luck or with the search for the Holy Grail to compare.

It is interesting in this context that (possibly US) is in the implementation for the Gamecube, which is cut in the German version, the UK version on the disk. It must be changed only the language of the console. This fact was apparently also the BPjM known which also indexed on the Gamecube, the German version. On the Wii, this trick is also possible and even the PC version can allegedly be uncut installed if you choose the English language during setup.

Conclusion:

Resident Evil 3 Nemesis at that time do not get very good ratings, which to a large extent on the violent censorship that even then was dusty equipment and Nemesis, whose permanent emergence many perceived as annoying. Should you be in possession of an uncut version, but Resident Evil 3 Nemesis is a really good part of the series, which may even come up with a very high replayability value. I can also part three would recommend as its predecessor. Who has not played out and can not be put off by the now very old graphics that should do in any case.
