Expectations for the third studio album by the guys from Las Vegas could not be higher, Brandon Flowers already issued but everywhere even premature praise, telling the whole world how the album would not be perfect and different. Then even "human" appeared on the scene, the kind Schunkel pop dance song with the kitschy glossy video. I admit, I had to swallow first. Please What was that? Not bad in the classic sense of the song has catchy potential - and how! - But so smoothed out, as might have been, it just did not expect from The Killers. Cute Pop's for Hitradio who could especially show the vocal qualities of Brandon Flowers for me.
Nevertheless, I gave the CD a change, and I have to say it is definitely audible. For newcomers who did not know the band, highly recommended, the fan of the first hour should be a bit more flexible. The guitars are missing, the vocal antics of Flowers remain largely out of the album and is a fun smorgasbord of curiosities. Alone "Joyride" and "I can not stay" should be mentioned here. That's Unterhaltungsgeschunkel the finest, absolute mass appeal and yet somehow different. This can be the guys then not take.
The individual songs are rated quickly:
"Losing Touch" is a perfect opener, I always have a bit of U2 think and sing cheerfully. 7/10
"Human" is hald "human" ... I became the song slowly warm, he's definitely a catchy tune, but for me just not a rousing song. 6/10
"Joyride" has really annoyed me at first, but as soon as the chorus starts, I was reconciled. Sommerlaune pure genius with rhythm and warm saxophone! 7/10
"A Dustland Fairytale" they can then still shine through, the beautiful voice of Flowers. Beautiful song that slowly but surely rising to his bombastic kitsch end. 9/10
"This Is Your Life" not let go of me right from the start. If only I knew what song that was originally? Great pop number, is catchy. 8/10
"I Can not Stay" crying for me for a sugary cocktail with umbrella, beads of sweat on his forehead and a slight sea breeze. 7/10
"Neon Tiger" is the only song with which I'm not really hot for me. Strange number, anyway. The bombast in the chorus does the remaining song not good. 4/10
"The World We Live In" is well chosen as the third single release. Beautiful, slow number, sung magnificently, beautiful chorus that settles in the head. 9/10
"Goodnight, Travel Well" is on this album a bit out of place, do not bother to last place but also continue. Strange, disturbing number. Still ok. 6/10
Yes I admit, I've left out a song. On purpose.
So far, Day & Age is a simple good, nice pop album. But there are still the big BUT, having this album finally has brought an additional point:
"Spaceman" is for me THE PERFECT pop song, as he should be in the textbook. Too bad that this song was then burned but as the second single bit, it would I like to often heard on the radio. This song has the perfect build is great and instrumentalized here Flowers runs vocally on absolute top form. Goosebumps, especially when the song nears its grand end.
With this song the guys have created a classic for me, as they wanted to always write it according to their own statements, yes. As I said, the perfect pop song - and this is absolutely meant positively!
