The housing is valuable and stable, its weight and the metal used to interpret more quality than, say, the plastic-heavy predecessor E-PL5. The total size is really pleasantly compact and thus very mobile. The black version is very chic to the red ring on the lens used and the release button. The white version also pleases me very well.
MENU
The menu system is a bit confusing at the beginning and definitely needs training. Quick noticeable that the actually-sensed points (ISO - White Balance - Image Size - file type, etc.) are hidden, namely in the operator menu, which must first be activated in the settings menu. Once this is done, one can prove the key new, or carry out your own adjustments as you like. This occurs via the OK button on the camera screen page.
The buttons are all within easy reach and the compact body is quite good in the hands. Who has huge hands, something could be at a disadvantage because just a bit lacking in height. Overall, a matter of taste, and perhaps also dependent on the duration of use.
DISPLAY
Although I take pictures no Selfies, I find the foldable display haptic quite sophisticated. I had the first time show (three stages) a little afraid to turn slightly. However, they quickly learn that can not really happen. Unlike the E-PL7 it folds up, which I think a lot more sense, especially if you want to do macro shots or time crawling around on the floor. Test, I have photographed me a few times with friends, so I approached the Selfie. Here, I felt it then but a little difficult to find the right angle without contortions.
The touch function is very nice, mainly in handy while looking through the pictures. Even though this is a little bit longer than with the directional pad. The quality and sharpness of the photos can be used also by check good, you can also zoom in with your finger. The colors are pretty glaring at the first use, this can be improved somewhat in the menu (from Vivid to Natural), green grass, for example, remains a bit garish, but further processing is carried out anyway on the big screen.
The option to take a photo of your fingertips, I have turned off because it just makes up for me not a real photographing feeling.
IMAGE QUALITY + PICTURE PREFERENCE / FILTER
As far as I am very satisfied with the picture quality. The 16 MP image sensor and image processor are used in many models Olympus (E-P5, OMD EM5) and thus have a few years under their belts. Nevertheless, the performance is very pleasant even with the included 14-42mm lens.
I have some things like noise suppression issued in the menu, to really get the images as original or self-inflicted as possible.
A slight blur effect arises mostly from approximately ISO 400, but you also get good results with higher values, which usually disappear when zoomed picture size again. Otherwise, at the right settings for the most part good JPEGs be delivered. The RAW files so far I could not open, but will sometimes get the needed plugin at times and maybe add my experience.
In Style mode, there are a variety of filters. Many of them I find unnecessary and cheesy / altmidisch (Sepia, Soft Focus), but there are a few useful as monochrome film (black and white) or pinhole and diorama, which may ensuring moments of fun. It is better here, the SCN mode. Here you will find additional picture modes like Panorama, Fisheye, Wide Angle, Macro and some others.
For beginners also a Life Guide mode on the Fn key (unless configured differently) to reach the ready an on-screen advice to certain recordings. Even better here is the opportunity to have a direct influence on color temperature, exposure time or a blurred background. For any novice create a touchscreen or button his recording without much prior knowledge - for professionals of course frills
EXTENSIBILITY + CONCLUSION
Least wertig is perhaps the accompanying flash, perhaps also due to its mostly silver color scheme that fits optically not quite as nice to the black (with me) camera. However gratifying that it comes with the package. It is easy to install, is secure and does his job well. That did not fire is an integral part, is personally ok for me because I prefer taking pictures without him.
What I do miss here and many latest camera models, is the viewfinder. Such a one can also attach the flash but additionally instead. A purchase with a proud price, but a good thing to have this option. And that is precisely what so well like with the E-PL6 - its extensibility.
Beginners who are looking for a solid camera bag are well served in any case, will also certainly enough already from the attached lens. Amateur photographers and semi-professionals who maybe looking for a lighter and more mobile second camera to his DSLR camera can be happy, but should be very experienced photographers here might look twice, what benefits this camera actually hergibt for them. I personally find that the E-PL6 alongside some fun features for specific target groups quite a solid (though not revolutionary) Interior offers, and at the same expandability and optimization through accessories, such as a variety of compatible lenses allows.
