I have long flirted with a Dreambox, but ultimately scares me always the lowest rate. With Vu + the pain threshold is not exceeded. Today I am also impressed by the receiver, but that was not initially like that. On delivery, it is a maximum of disappointing: Moderate picture quality, getting used to operation, ugly interface, few functions. I quickly flashed from the VTI image Forum. This, however, to configure so that the family can live with it and at least the normal satellite operation with intelligent interface, power consumption, image, channel sorting ... work was not easy. Everything is different from Kathrein, of course, is for "average Joe" made.
Ultimately, however, I have hinbekommen almost everything I expected. Only the SD image quality is just moderate. Kathrein seems to be a benchmark.
Now my summary of the properties:
Positives:
- Very good remote control. Without precise objectives of each command is recognized. The pressure point and sorting is very good.
- Power consumption: Here the receiver will have only to "Deep Standby" in order 0.5W (as on the package) is reached. Otherwise he needs> 10W.
- With VTI incredibly many possibilities, most do not need Linux skills.
- SW is fully stable (quite unlike the old Kathrein)
- Recordings via Ethernet even in HD no problem
- HD + without nannying
- Extremely fast switch
- Media Player really usable with multiple formats (however, here in SD again the theme image quality)
Negatives:
- Long start time (with VTI's going reasonably: approx 60s)
- Poor quality SD (blurred and pale), HD quality is not perfect, but good.
- Incompatibility between my Sony TV and solo lead when starting a sound problem when the TV before running Vu +. No problems at Kathrein
- Needless complicated Listing Services Handling (best to use DreamBoxEdit, otherwise you desperately)
- Lots of patience necessary, the Forum is ok, but is not directed from very beginners to. Read, read, read!
Overall, he now makes a lot of fun. The whole family has something like this (Enigma :-)). Only when the image quality must be cut back. I bought an HD + card, so this problem is solved (although I'm not a fan of HD + principle). For these reasons, I can not recommend any of the receiver. However, anyone who fights his way through the beginning, the safe also packs the excitement!
