The filtered integrated jack lets you connect one or more devices and prevents you from wasting an electrical outlet. The blue LEDs flash during data transfer. When there is no network traffic, the kits start automatically to standby after a few tens of seconds (75% savings on energy consumption is appreciated).
The advantage is that it allows the PLC to link remote devices without the need for long cables unsightly networks, or install trenches or baseboards along walls. Compared to the wifi rates are also preserved, less degraded with distance from the source and there is no electromagnetic waves, subject to debate about their health hazards.
In performance between the bedroom and living room.
With my computer directly connected to the modem Numericable (30 mega) via a Category 5 Ethernet cable:
Download: 29.24Mbps
Upload: 0.99Mbps
Ping: 28ms
By connecting to the PLC in the other room (about 30 meters away):
DL: 28.60Mbps
UP: 0.98Mbps
Ping: 39MS
With the same distance over WiFi G network:
DL: 10.15Mbps
UP: 0,98Mbps
Ping: 36ms
It has similar data between the WiFi and Powerline for ping and upload. By cons at the flow amount unlike WiFi, CPL provides very little loss.
In transfers this is very good. I tried watching movies in HDTV (1080) with Netflix (TV connected PLC): no loss of quality and no jerkiness even if the resolution oscillated regularly between 720 and 1080 (Netflix automatically adjusts the quality depending on the flow of Subscriber).
Using Netflix (about 8 Mbps of bandwidth required), the computer connected to the other CPL kit kept outstanding performance and maximum rates:
DL: 21.22Mbps
UP: 0.93Mbps
Ping: 39MS
The two boxes are the HomePlug standards, I was able to insert on my existing PLC network (2 brand Netgear adapters) with great ease (still pressing the button for 1 second and that's all).
I recommend this kit CPL is really powerful, especially for its very attractive price. For against my Netgear Powerline AV500 housings 500 Mbit / s offer better throughput LAN (which is logical given the advertised rate), but for the price (half) I recommend these AV200 Powerline adapters.
