The 12 new and unused songs all tell of grim tales of murder and the dark side of humanity. The all exciting texts packed the band back in the familiar sound of "Black in Black", but as I just needed a few attempts in the first-mentioned plate, "dowry" is catchy. The riffs are haunting, the melodies and sophisticated at all is a touch electronics that builds a true atmosphere wall along with the classical instruments. While other bands stubbornly follow the trends such as just "Dubstep" and then usually serve only standard fare (see my second favorite big band "Muse" with the ambitious but long was staying permanently album "The 2nd Law"), the guys go around lead singer Eric Fish an interesting symbiosis.
Songs like "Black Silk", "Cruel Sister" or "Wait, wait" obtained by the electronic base aggression and gloom that I missed in the predecessor in some songs often.
Well, there are songs in which the electronics quite disconcerting acts such as in "Your Captain", that would probably not become worse than pure folk rock number, but the new sound is unmistakable STS and yet fresh. In addition, the individual songs are really a lot of variety. "Black Silk" for example, has a really nice "drop" in the center and even a little reminiscent of the much-praised young people "Skrillex". Sounds weird? But if it is by no means easy and feels good when listening to.
It's amazing how the guys have managed to really keep boredom at bay, although the songs floating up on "In Wicker Garden" and the outro "Coda" all in the same sound bed.
But the use of choirs ("Black Silk", "arms Ellen Schmitt", etc.), an epic female vocals ("Cruel Sister") and really crunchy riffs combine with Eric Fish's distinctive voice, fascinated again and again.
In addition, there are a few songs that but then break out a little further than initially thought. "House of Pain" for example, turns out to be a gem that expertly familiar elements of electronic music with a "headbanging" - combined-capable reef. Then there is between the fast pieces even slower, such as "cold iron", which offer just with sophisticated melodies and good lyrics. In general, the texts are thematically, despite the restriction on "killer stories", an incredibly diverse range. The great ballad "In Wicker Garden" tells, for example, of euthanasia under two lovers, while "Black Silk" deals with necrophilia. STS never rush here in arg kitschy climes, but deliver somber images that connect to the dark sound design and the audience saw through the ear canal immediately.
With this on the album is "Vela Dare!" a purely acoustic song that strongly confident even without Fishs singing. During the intro still rather suggests Folk, then followed by a crashing reef with thumping bass and synthesizer sounds. Just great!
Conclusion: I personally feel "dowry" as STS have celebrated a big party together with icebreakers, Skrillex and Rammstein and then produced an album. STS reinvent itself so again and yet remain true to himself. The new electronic elements fit perfectly into the picture and never act so as if to be sure to suck up to the mainstream audience. On The Contrary. The new sound is fitting to the theme hard and grim. For me, "dowry" my favorite album "Nord Nord Ost" will replace it, as it combines the strengths of "angel warriors", "passion" and "Black in Black".
