When "photo quality when compared to previously" applies as a measure, the money is here 10x better than investments in an expensive lens ...
I come from the freeware versions RawTherapee and Gimp (with RAW converter) to Mac laptop and clear that open source products also do their service. LR is but noticeably faster and somehow easier / more intuitive to use. Can not tell really what it is - but the workflow through the menus is great: more or less durchhangeln from top to bottom and finished picture looks great. Toll also the Auto settings that give a 90% final image, eg "sharpen faces" and "sharpening landscape" are - click on it and the associated controller fit.
Even a very powerful Adjustment Brush there - so for unwanted freckles or dirt on the lens you do not need Photoshop / Gimp more.
And another bonus for LR: Since it is the absolute standard, one gets easily to any subject a number of tutorials / guides on the Internet.
Who is not yet convinced that there is a 30 day (whether used or not) Trial for free on the Adobe website. If you buy the product after that, you get a number of Amazon code that you can insert when the program starts and so does not need to reinstall. If the program but do not like, it is very easy to re-de-install (at least the part of Creative Cloud is gone with me to click)
Where you have to say now that the jpg-convert to the new cameras (Nikon D750 / D810) has become brutally good - and so you have really no time work. On the other hand, the Photo Fix is part of my hobbies and I enjoy it.
I do not use LR to sort images or to edit already finished jpgs. These features so I can not say anything.
