My previous phone, a Nokia N73 Music Edition might have some of the negative characteristics that are ascribed to 5800, met (especially the issue creak), but the new touch screen mobile phone of the Finns I noticed no lack of processing or the like. Of course, the plastic-heavy design is nothing for Steel- and chrome-fanatics who will find it closer to Samsung or Iphone. The case is not too easy, slightly rough on the back by soft-touch surface and is wonderful in his hand.
Strong fingernails but you should already possess, because the insertion of the SIM card and the battery require just such. That's it then but even with the difficulties, after quite a short time (in my copy is less than 20 sec), the phone is ready for use.
Now for the "content" of 5800:
The menus are structured Nokia typical and in some places a little nest, but absolutely self-explanatory. Long studying the manual falls flat, only the changing click function requires a little getting used to (for explanation: Sometimes simple click, but sometimes double). Why this highly complicated system some testers give up such puzzles mystery to me, I felt spontaneously recalls the use of a PC mouse since the double finally works so well.
The screen is in spite of the not necessarily superior resolution all menus clear and beautifully colored again, which of course is also due to 16 million colors. The attached below the touch screen keys have a crisp pressure point use, do not have to you but except the menu button in the rule.
What definitely is a familiarization is to write text messages. This can be optionally written with qwerty, qwerty or alphanumeric keypad, who may want to write with the built-in housing Stylus also manually all.
Copy and Paste operations are possible as well as the forwarding of entire SMS and the Compose MMS (not possible with the iPhone).
Practicable is of course the classic method, but also the QWERTY keyboard in landscape mode is really fun, the Stylus is but here means first choice to frequently mistype you look, if you do not touch the nail the screen, but with the fingertip.
Images can be similar to the iPhone push, the music player is compared to the my iPod definitely competitive, the video player (though I actually do not often use it) surprisingly practical and easy to use.
One point that precipitated particularly, the keyboard lock that is now enabled by hold-buttons on the housing side and the screen for the purpose of saving electricity ausknipst immediately. In addition, Nokia has earned top marks in my opinion also the battery life, the thing had, despite many attempts test after just 5 days to the grid!
Wifi works fine, Spiegel Online and Amazon were up in an instant (Full Flash Support), surfing makes with Stylus really fun, but the browser is also thumb friendly. Bluetooth is now one of the standard yes. Unfortunately Elegant Mutitouch-flick like the iPhone does not work, but does not bother me the conventional use with your thumb and pull the frame.
For Accessories: The Nokia 5800 comes with a table stand to watch movies, a spare stylus, an admittedly somewhat habituation needy bag (material very rubbery), a Plec besides trailer tapes and various cables for connection to TV and Co.
Let's talk about a few points of criticism:
Who is it, the will completely come off here, so a small but clear Minsupunkt noble material.
The mentioned fuzzelige Simslotabdeckung is a minor annoyance, as something too sensitive responsive scrolling function in the address book.
Even a slightly more extensive organizer function I would have liked, unfortunately Nokia has here uses only the default calendar.
Conclusion:
With few exceptions, Nokia has brought here a really nice touch screen phone on the market, from the generally alleged false start the Finns can definitely be no question. The 5800 is fun, comes with an enormous equipment and lots of accessories and offers many different options to use a in my eyes more than reasonable price.
+ Giant Equipment
+ Display
+ Delivery (eg provided memory card 8G)
+ Music and video player
Ergonomics +
+ Small "what have for you there?" Bonus :)
- Haptic (a matter of taste, but as I said quality workmanship)
- Slot for memory and SIM card
- A little familiarization with writing text messages
- Calendar (at least important to me personally)
- Not quite as elegant operation as in the competition
Small note yet:
I have the blue 5800 version, which I ordered with a little worried because of the very bright blue stripe, this is not so plastic-heavy as it appears far on some photos and works from different viewing angles something lighter, something darker. So if you so prefer to buy one of the (usually expensive) other versions, let me tell you that this device is really handsome, despite blue :)
Oh yes:
I am definitely not a Nokia disciples (previously 3 times Sonye.) And have tried to describe the whole thing as objective as possible. I hope I could help you a little bit in your purchase decision!
Revision and depreciation on 3 star:
As of today, the 5800 is unfortunately technically (see especially Symbian OS and Ovi Store) pretty fall behind.
Deductions are available for use, which is no longer simply on the amount of time, and the range of apps.
Nevertheless: For 130-150 euros, it is still a good alternative to modern equipment, nearly 200 euros as currently (as of January 2011), however, can not be justified in my eyes and bordering impudence.
If you want to put on tons of Apps, which is discouraged by this Nokia, but who is looking for a solid smartphone with very good battery and good sound when listening to music, can access.
