The eight songs hold up very roughly to the famous PT-sequences. Mir has made it great fun to puzzle during the first hearing, what issues which arise. So for example, I used extremely long to identify the distinctive bassline in Song Two as "The Sound of Muzak" - in absolutely positive sense, because this is not simply repeated but totally reinterpreted.
There appear more musical themes, as indicated on the packaging. A small example: In "Heart Attack in a layby" first appeared on "The Creator had a master tape", followed by "Anesthetize Pt.3" mixed with the vocal line of the actual title.
Logically, one must have something left for jazz, fusion, etc. Swing from this plate. Not to Porcupine Tree expect just because here the songs of this band are interpreted. Personally, I like this work really well, not least due to the overwhelming good Drumming Master. Here PT is presented in a completely new look and the highest standards.
Conclusion: Who makes clear what he has to do something here and has left for modern jazz can here make quite simply nothing wrong. Absolute buy recommendation on my part.
