Each user, however, should be aware before purchasing that means the adapter ONLY THE TRANSFER OF PHOTOS TOWARDS iPad or iPad-MINI is possible. The reverse direction, photos or other data from the iPad to transfer towards SD card is blocked by Apple and is not possible. Likewise, the transfer means of the adapter from the SD card to the iPhone or iPod is not possible.
Transferring videos to the iPad / iPad mini is dependent on some conditions and the following points should be noted:
- SD card the camera must be plugged directly into the adapter (. Are videos previously bsw on PC or Mac edited with a video converter, missing the output control command of the camera), that in consequence, the videos are not displayed even if the video has an Apple-compliant file system
- There are .mov files with MPEG-4 / H.264 codec in 720p and 1080p with 30 frames per second as well as PCM or AAC displayed where described
- Are not displayed AVCHD codec (file extension .mts), which will find for example in camcorder models from Sony or Panasonic (H-VCxxxxxx) or compact cameras the Panasonic TZ series use. Here the camera on Motion-JPEG would have to be adjusted, with the result that .mov files are created so they can be imported from the iPad.
Which SD cards work?
In conjunction with the adapter a 32GB SanDisk is easily used Extreme SDHC card (Class 10) from me. SDXC cards (ie larger 32GB) are only recognized or work with the adapter, if they are formatted with FAT32. Problems with SDXC cards there, because these usually are formatted with exFAT.
Those looking to stay on the safe side, should be limited to SDHC cards (up to 32GB so).
By the way:
- After connecting the adapter and inserted SD card can be seen on the iPad first smaller thumbnails (called thumbnails). Only after selecting which photos you want to transfer, and the actual transfer the photos can then in full view of the iPad (and depending on the selected aspect ratio of the recorded still images, BSW. 3: 2 or 4: 3) are considered.
Supplements:
- 10.04.2013: under iOS 7 works the adapter the iPad 4 so far without any problems.
- 16/12/2013: works with the iPad Air very good.
- EIA manufacturer price: 29,00
- Purchased / shipped directly from Amazon (the original products Apple)
- 05/20/2014: There are now next to the original Apple adapters (USB to Lightning, SD on Lightning) further options (including Apple licensed) for direct (computer-free) data transmission: for example, the i-Flash Drive (in different sizes, quite expensive, Apple licensed) or as another example, now many existing Wifi card reader, the Kingston MobileLite MLW221
- 14/12/2014: Works on iOS and the iPad Air 2 8 so far without any problems.
Conclusion
- Processing and quality of this original product are well
- Design Apple-typical; Price too high
- Can be used this adapter is only for a limited range of (photos from SD card to iPad / iPad mini; restricted videos possible; no other data transfer; no use on iPhone or iPod)
- For this restricted area of the adapter, however, works very well.
The limited usefulness (restrictions by Apple) I see critical. The potential users / buyers should be aware of the restrictions before buying clear. Otherwise, the product is recommended.
